Guest guest
I am 3 days post-op and just started on the ensure. I think it tastes gross.... does blending in other stuff really help? the texture of it is a little repulsive. My mom made me chicken soup and potato leak soup and she just strained it very well. The hot soup works well to dilute the percoset which is the only drug that works on my pain. I am starting to wonder what I will eat. I am naturally thin and can't really afford to loose any weight. Apple sauce? chocolate pudding? pureed meatballs and spaghetti? Also, cold Ice-cream is painful on my teeth. I don't know...most foods are making me nausious anyway so I am not eating and I know that's bad... any other suggestions? Tova > > I am 11 days post op. Guest guest
Try carnation instant breakfast, it's by the cereal @ the store. all kinds of flavors. Mix it w/2% or whole milk. Ensure was way too much for me! > >Reply-To: orthognathicsurgerysupport >To: orthognathicsurgerysupport >Subject: Re: [Orthognathic Surgery Support ] What else can I eat while >wired shut >Date: Thu, 27 Jan 2005 13:52:49 -0500 > > >I am 3 days post-op and just started on the ensure. Guest guest
I was not wired but banded so I can't totally understand, but for the first few days I could not open my mouth at all...so I stuck to smoothies and soups. 1. Smoothies - get frozen yogurt, or reg yogurt, frozen fruit (got a huge bag for cheap at Costco), juice or skim milk, dessert tofu (great for protein and you can't really taste it) -- blend it all up. Will keep you full for awhile. Very important to get protein in. 2. Milkshakes with peanut butter (get the or natural peanut butter that is more 'runny'). Blend with frozen yogurt and milk. Dairy are a good source of protein too. 3. Delicious soups - 's Gardennay Soup are great! Or lots of supermarkets will carry fresh soups in their deli section. Any soups that were too chunky for me I will quicky blend to puree. Try and get protein!! It's important for recovery. In week 2 I could eat softer foods like Shepherd's Pie, lasagna, puddings, and even salmon and roasted mashed veggies. Try allrecipes.com for smoothie recipes, soups and softer foods. Good luck! Guest guest
Hi, Straws for me were not on my NO list...so I was okay to use them from " go " ...the idea I think is that the sucking can obviously change your structure as you heal...pull on stiches...ask the OS for sure...maybe the sports bottle size would be ok, I mean the entire time I was banded tight and unable to open I was not good at all with a cup and it was such a slow process when it got actually IN my mouth and not on my clothes, heck I was hungry just eating! ;)I did buy the bags and I reused them for sure...but while they were OK...I didn't love them. The smaller thinner tube ones were such a trickle...and the larger ones still didn't push out as much as the regular straw...plus, they were kinda awkward to hold...I remember very well that I would wrap a dish cloth arround it to drink hot soup...and then sit it in a mug to rest so it didn't fall over...I mean don't get me wrong, I used them, but didn't love them. I liked my huge syringe when I got released from the hosp, but something happened to it and I couldn't get another...the while little ones stink for food, but were ideal for meds...I would crush them up...add a little fruit punch Gatorade and suck them into the syrnge and kick them back quickly...the G seemed to but the aweful taste of meds best...and Also, when I went to mug/cup and straws...I always used hot heat on the mugs in the dishwasher to be sure germs died away and bought plastic cups for water/ginerale/juice to again keep clean. I will scratch up some more recipes for monday...unless I get extra time today or this weekend...is there anything in particular that interests you---type of food or what not?
