Guest guest
So I am not sure if anyone remembers the problems that I had starting Zach's treatment- they had the hat at a different office- had to drive about 75 miles to 2 different offices. lots of confusion.... Well Zach goes for his visit on Friday- and the ortho measures his head with calibers........for a STARTING POINT.....Zach has had his hat on for 3 weeks now! They neglected to mention to me that this office does not have a scanner- so he measures with Calibers???? I was so frustrated- and he told me that if I wanted to get a scan I could schedule an appt. at the main office - what the heck??? At first I was like ok is this normal and he told me yes. But then I got to thinking That is a pretty important piece of info in my mind- especially since we got scanned twice and that is how we have our measurements. Does anyone else that has a starband orthos use a caliber to measure? This is so frustrating- but we are going back to the main office so we can get him scanned every visit....so by the time he gets back in for a scan he will have the hat (that is what he call it) for a MONTH! Please say a prayer that we can get this mess straightened out before I go crazy on someone Thanks! Kristy Zach 3 weeks Starband NO idea what measurements are....grrr
Guest guest
My daughter did get scanned at every visit, but it isn't necessary and a lot of orthos don't do it that way. The most important thing is to be sure you're making good progress. Some orthos don't even measure, they just go by look. For example I think CT had the head cast and they would visually compare that to your baby each week and make adjustments accordingly. Now that they have scanning at most offices I'm not sure if that has changed, but I'm pretty sure they still don't scan at every visit. If your ortho seems good I would would go to the close office and only visit the one with the scanner if it has been a while, or if you have some concern about the shape. I also recommend taking photos for yourself every week or two to make it easier to see the changes. -christine sydney 2.5 yrs starband grad > > So I am not sure if anyone remembers the problems that I had > starting Zach's treatment- they had the hat at a different office- > had to drive about 75 miles to 2 different offices. lots of > confusion.... > > Well Zach goes for his visit on Friday- and the ortho measures his > head with calibers........for a STARTING POINT.....Zach has had his > hat on for 3 weeks now! Guest guest
Hello. The only times my Daughter was scanned for her band (Hanger) was when they initially scanned her (to make the band) and then at the end when we she was done. From what I know.... I don't thing any Orthotists scan every time. I've heard of a lot who will scan the beginning, then several weeks into it (around mid way) and then again at the end. Using Calipers is the Orthotists way to just check for growth in the right place(s). Calipers won't be quite as reliable (since there could be human error), but it will help to make sure that there is improvement from visit to visit. Guest guest
We go to STAR Cranial Center in Columbia, MD and we aren't measured every visit. At the first visit, Gavin was scanned so they would have measurements to show for his initial presentation. Then, his Oral/Maxillofacial Surgeon asked for a scan halfway through so he could stay in the loop and that is the reason he was scanned at 8 weeks. Normally, we were told they are scanned at the initial visit and at 12 weeks. We were then scanned at 12 weeks (third scan) and then we returned at 15 weeks for the final scan. They definitely should have mentioned to you that their office is not equipped with a scanner and given you the option to make the appointment at the main office. Much luck!
