Hi,

I am recently taken up running, and I really enjoy it. I know my

surgery is likely to be over a year away (will be finding out when it

is likely to be in Feb), but I was just wondering how long after the

surgery I wouldn't be able to go running for (it is a great escape

from everything going on!

Thanks

I'm a long-time runner and from reading the boards here, I thought

I'd need to abstain for 6 weeks, minimum. I had my lower jaw moved

3mm back and was banded for 12 days.

When I got the bands off, I asked my surgeon what I could do exercise-

wise and she said anything. Even running? Yup. I was totally

astonished, I mean, I was only 12 days post-op. It's probably because

I had such a minimal amount of movement.

But I tell ya, I was still really tired at that point and my bite

felt very weird to me. It was " right " for the first time in my life,

but it felt foreign, like I was wearing those fake vampire teeth. The

idea of my face and jaw getting jostled freaked me out. I started

running last week, 6 weeks post-op, and all is well. I can't run as

far or as fast as I could 6 weeks ago, but I'm sure that will improve

in time.

So why am I telling you this long-winded story? I guess just to say

that it's different for everyone, but the average is at least 6 weeks.

This is great to hear and helpful! I am a runner too and want to

start training up for another half and eventually full marathon. I am

2 weeks post op and was feeling apprehensive about starting to run

again although my surgeon has told me I can. I think I will wait

another few weeks until I am back at work and on my feet again.

Great info! Cheers, Jen
