Hello,

We fairly recently got my daughter a LOC helmet in UK. She has been wearing it

for 5 weeks and we have already seen great improvement.

Unfortunately, in our case, we were told by told by both her GP and a Ped at the

local NHS hospital that the helmet will not be funded by the NHS since its a non

medical condition and what they call it as purely cosmetic.

Wish you all the best with your grandchild.

daughter is anxious to go ahead regardless with her baby's band as the plagio

has been diagnosed by Dr Blecher at Ahead4babies as 'severe' at 25mm

asymmetrical , rather than wait for the slow wheels of applying to the NHS , but

does anyone have experience of either waiting and going this route, or applying

retrospectively ? Ive heard a couple of NHS like Bristol accept it as a matter

of course, but whats the procedure if you live outside such an area? I read

somewhere that NICE is re evaluating helmet wearing - dont know whether its

true, but the part of their website on policy for that issue has been suspended.

Hi kauser  -- what mm of asymmetry did your little one have and how old is she? Was the decision just a plain 'no' across the board,  or so you know if  it might it havechanged from 'cosmetic to medical 'if the measurment had been higher? Glad to hear the band is already having a good effect.

Thanks, will have a look at that group. My daughter has a letter from the specialist in support of my daughter and saying the NHS should have picked up the tort earlier, and that this was preventable - so shes going ahead anyway with the band , and applying tothe NHS in retrospect. Ill post  what happens in due course.

Thanks for further info, glad its going well. Dashing out with dog to vet now!

Regards

Hi Pamela,Apologies for not mentioning that my daughter's asymmetry was moderate at 12mm but she has severe brachy 93% and we got her banded when she was 8 months old.In our case, it was a plain 'no' across the board. It may be due to her case not being severe. By the time we saw the GP & Ped at the local NHS hospital we had already decided to go ahead with the treatment privately so we didnt really push for NHS to fund it.

I have recently found a health group called " plagiouk " . Was wondering whether if you post something on that group you may get more help/advice.With best wishes,Kausar > > >> > > Hello again> > > Has anyone in England managed to get NHS to fund their childs helmet? My
