I started eating blended foods 6 days post-op. I was able to open

about 1.5 fingers wide. At first, I had to have a glass of water next

to me. I was afraid to swallow too sometimes and would squirt water

to help dilute what was in my mouth. My throat was also overly

sensitive to certain textures and spices, so water helped. I don't

use zip'n'squeeze at all (it's just sitting in my closet), but I used

plastic syringes from the pharmacy until I recently learned to sip

from a glass.

I use small plastic spoons just to be safe. Here's what I've been

eating since day 6:

Breakfast: oatmeal mixed with 1/2 a mushed-up banana, 1g of crushed

vitamin C and a crushed multi-vitamin. No need to blend anything

since it's so runny. I also drink milk to wash it down.

Lunch and dinner, I have any of the following:

- blended ham and cream of corn, mixed with mashed potatoes (I never

blend my mashed potatoes).

- 2 blended, baked chicken breasts with either chicken sauce or

whatever marinated juices are in the pot, mixed with mashed potatoes.

- blended shephard's pie (my favorite).

- spaghetti with rich, blended home-made sauce. I chop the spaghetti

noodles until it's small enough to swallow whole and then mix it with

the blended sauce.

- kanji (rice gruel) blended with chicken and vegetables.. not my

favorite.

- I've also had blended meatball stew, mixed with mashed potatoes,

which was really good.

For in-between snacks, I usually have a 25g protein shake or a slim-

fast. V8 is perfect as a double vegetable serving.

Hope that helps. The annoying part is blending solids - I don't like

it to be too runny, so it makes blending a pain. I'd love to hear

more ideas cuz I'm getting tired of the same foods too.

The blender works wonders to make soups, shakes, fruit shakes, yogurt, pudding,

and I mashed up tuna, chicken breast into tiny pieces....

I mashed up veggies after cooking them, spinach is easy, but I did not eat much

when my splint was in because I just could not taste any thing...

Hang in there it will pass... :)

have a splint and can open approx 1 finger - no bands for right now. I

get a little panicky when something seems like I can't swallow easily

so I feel like I need liquid type foods or something I can wash down

with a liquid drink. I have not ordered the ZipNSqueeze but may try it

although since not wired or banded shut, not sure if it's necessary.

Seems like it may make it easier though
