I've had an infection in the past (not with surgery) which resulted in

a constant fever and a very severe sore throat, so I can just imagine

how crappy you must feel coupled with the surgery.

I just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents, in addition to what Jane and

have already mentioned.

Right after surgery, I was told to drink 2 litres of liquids per day.

That's 200 squirts of a 10mL plastic syringe! It felt impossible, so

I turned it into a game - I challenged myself each day. I measured

what I drank and wrote it down, keeping track of my progress. By the

end of the day, I had usually exceeded the 2 litres by a bit. I was

also going to the washroom every 5 minutes, but that was part of the

game and proved that I was winning.

I found diluted apple juice (1/2 to 1 cup of water per cup of apple

juice) very easy to drink right after surgery, so I drank a ton of it,

along with the usual trusty chicken broth. You might want to try flat

ginger-ale at room temperature for nausea and sore throat (make sure

it's flat or you'll cough from the fizz).

Hang in there, and make sure your OS knows about this - he'll likely

prescribe antibiotics and tell you to take an advil or tylenol every 4

hours to reduce the fever and alleviate throat pain so that you can

more easily consume the required liquids - talk to your OS first

though!!

I'm not sure who's post it was but just in the past couple days

someone was talking about white spots or " whiteness " in their mouth

after just having had their surgery. Someone here suggested asking

the doctor to see if it is " thrush " . As it turns out, it was Thrush

and was helped almost immediately by the meds that person was

prescribed, if I remember accurately. If you have a fever and are

feeling worse and worse, PLEASE!!!!! CALL your Doctor!! He can help

you!!! I learned the hard way right after my surgery waiting a couple

days before I called about pain I was having. It turned out I was

given incorrect medication dosage information. Please don't wait and

suffer. The doctor can't help you unless he knows that you need his

help!!! The fever isn't good... YOu may have an infection your body

is trying to fight and needs help fighting.... Sometimes one kind of

antibiotic doesn't do the job and you may need another. I would check

out what is going on in your mouth. Please!! Call tonight even....

let us know how it goes. And CALL CALL CALL!!!! :) I'll be thinking

about you and cheering you on to feel better soon!! This time will

pass. We all feel for you here and know what you're going through.

Right after surgery can be a really hard time. The surgeon is there

to help you after surgery as much as he's there to perform the actual

surgery- please take advantage of that. Take care, Katja

you are all soo nice for helping me get through this! i mentioned to the dr

that it might be thrush but he seemed to think it would be more on my cheek and

throat. i definitily have an infection sincec my white blood count was out of

whack. they did switch my antibiotics to zithromax so i am just praying that

will make a differnce. it really does make me feel better knowing others have

has the same pain and gotten through it. i am very hopeful for tonight should

be a better night (after passing out on the bathroom floor and waking up with

102 - it can' really get much worse!)
