Guest guest
When introducing foods slowly and one-at-a-time, what would indicate the child isn't ready for the food? Mushy poops or diarrhea? I ask because Lizzie was given a whole banana yesterday, then also had delerius night terrors last night with a potty accident (age 4, already potty-trained). On day 3 I gave her a banana and then no banana on day 4 . . . no problems then. (Also no BMs on Day 4 or 5). She was on day 5 of the Intro Diet. Was that more die-off symptoms, or a bananna reaction?
Guest guest
I would include emotional and behavior changes along with digestive or immune symptoms as a guide to food intolerances. Behavioral and emotional changes are much easier to identify in children than adults [grin], but since there is a strong brain/gut connection we all have them to some degree. It can be tricky at times identifying the one food that might be causing problems, and you also have to consider supplements. But Lizzie’s reaction seems to indicate that the banana was the problem. I’d stop the bananas for a month or two and then try one again after some healing has occurred. If a similar reaction occurs with other foods then it might be more of a healing/detoxing regression. Still, the solution is the same. For a day or two, fall back to the foods that Lizzie tolerates the best. After a while, perhaps several weeks, you can try the suspect food again. I find bananas very difficult to digest; my upper GI reacts badly and my constipation is worse for a few days. So I stopped trying to eat them, not even used as a sweetener in muffins. Kim M.
