Guest guest
Hi Fran, Thank you for writing yesterday... your message was comforting and helped me so much to feel better. I don't feel responsible... not for what happened and not for not calling. I didn't know that I didn't have the right information!! I didn't have a question, I thought my problems were due to my error which I tried to correct. Apparently, the residents were responsible for my discharge and they are the ones that completely not only dropped the ball but lost it too. They are supposed to know all the information and convey it to me. Come to find out later that I'm not even getting a consistent story between them. Each says something different from the other about all the different medications I've been on. Yikes! And I have subsequently spoken to my surgeon since posting yesterday. I know from him what my medications should be and their dosage. He was shocked that I wasn't given his direct number. He then gave me his home number and told me how to reach him at any time, and that he was always happy to speak to me. At my appointment with him tomorrow, I plan to talk about everything with him, mostly because I think he needs to be aware of my experiences with the residents. I want to get the whole story and make sure he has it as well. At this point, responsibility seems to lie with the residents and their poor performance. I think recovery was hard because I've never had surgery before, and furthermore, I just simply had no idea what to reasonably expect and what was within or beyond normal.... you don't know what it is that you don't know. Everything you've written is really good advice. I hope everyone yet to have surgery has read your post so they go home from the hospital armed with this knowledge. Thank you for writing. I am better rested today, and better overall. I do know so much more now and have definitely learned from this experience.... I needed that prayer and the hugs yesterday, so thanks!!! Take care, Katja PS, I'll let you know how my appointment tomorrow goes.
