Should I tell?

I have a problem and I REALLY need some wisdom

and help.

I had my surgery about 1 year ago; and I have only

started working about 2 months ago after being

unable to work for 3 years.

I have not told my employers about my

circumstance as I would be afraid that they would

not want to keep me as an employee. They know

that I have lost a lot of weight, that I was disabled

and unable to work, and that I had some kind of

surgery about a year ago, but that is all they know.

Well today, I woke-up sick and went to work

anyway. My body acted as though I was dumping

all day. I had nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea all

day long. (This is not totally unusual for me but

that is another story.) It was very difficult for me

today, as it was hard to drink or eat anything.

PLUS our office has no air conditioning and it

stayed over 90 in our office. (I have been hearing

for two months now that they are getting the air

conditioning fixed.)

The problem is that I felt very weak, shaky, and

faint, and I began to get scared. I was sure I would

faint or something; thank God I did not.

DO I TELL ANYBODY THE TRUTH?

Not necessary, either tell them you have a stomach virus which is probably

true, or that the heat made you sick which also maybe true. Not every illness

post op is the result of the surgery.

I'd tell them I didn't feel well and go home, or call in sick. You have a

right to privacy and are under no obligation whatsoever to tell them about

what has happened between you and your body. Everyone has the right to have

a sick day when they need it as well.

The only truth they need to know about in this case is that you felt like

crap and couldn't come in.

,

Nope, they don't need to know. I don't think that what happened

has anything to do with your WLS. Heat affects people differently. I

personally can't work in a place where it is 90 degrees + inside. I get

nauseated, shaky, and the whole nine yards and did so even prior to

surgery. You don't need to tell them anything that you don't want to.

I'm going to throw something out here and hope I don't offend

you. There are generally 2 reasons I tell people things that are none of

there business, because it comes up in conversation OR because I want

people to feel sorry for me. I seriously don't discuss the surgery any

more because I want people to feel sorry for me. I have learned to not

play the victim any more - something I use to do all of the time. So, my

question is why do you want to tell them about the surgery? Is it

because you are proud of yourself? This truly is the only reason for me

to share about the surgery in the work place. Well either that or to

help someone else who may want or need the surgery.
