Guest guest
, Back when Maysa was 5 months old and we went to CT for an evaluation, they also told us that she would probably be in her band for about 3 months. We chose a different helmet and in 3.5 months saw absolutely no progress despite considerable growth. At 9.5 months, she got her 1st DOC band and we started seeing positive change almost immediately. She was older though and didn't grow as much as when she was between 5.5 and 9 months of age. We wanted to do everything we could to see even better results so we opted for a second band. The DOC bands are good for a maximum of 16 weeks if the baby doesn't outgrow them, however, I believe that had Maysa been in a DOC band between 5.5 and 9 months of age, we would have been done with it with excellent results. Good luck, Leila Maysa, 15.5 months, less than 3 weeks left in DOC band 2 www.mymaysa.wordpress.com From: angelaforry <angelaforry@...>Subject: How many of your LO's have needed a 2nd band from Cranial Tech?Plagiocephaly Date: Saturday, May 9, 2009, 11:55 PM I'm just curious how many of your little ones needed further treatment and thus a 2nd band from Cranial Tech? The lady I spoke with from Cranial Tech said each band can be worn for no more than 12 weeks. Because our son's has significant brachy and plagio, I'm not sure it will be fully corrected by 12 weeks and think we would probably need a 2nd band. From what I have read (and the lady I spoke to) kids can wear the Hanger bands longer. Quite honestly, I doubt we can afford two bands (from CT) at $2550 each. I don't know what to do. Guest guest
We ended up with two DOC Bands but we got a later start (9 months) because we wasted months 7 and 8 with Hangar. I know that you said you we paying out of pocket but have you spoken to your HR person at work. Sometimes they can help with claim denials. Feel free to e-mail me privately if you want to hear more about our experience. ____________________________________________________________ Click here to save hundreds on patio furniture. Guest guest
It's not that they denied it, it's an excluded benefit....they simply won't cover it. The lady at Cranial Tech said that United Health is one of the only insurance agencies she's come across that refused to cover cranial bands. She also told me that as many people that have challenged and appealed it, none have ever been successful when it was listed as an excluded benefit. We're just going to have to pay out of pocket. Now we have to decide where we're going to go. If our Max only needs one helmet, then we'll go to Cranial Tech, but if it's thought he'll need 2....then we may have to go with Hanger. It's such a tough decision. > > We ended up with two DOC Bands but we got a later start (9 months) because we wasted months 7 and 8 with Hangar. Guest guest
, We also have United Healthcare, and it was and excluded benefit as well, so we had to pay out of pocket. But in the meantime, I talked to my HR - Benefits department and sent them my appeal letter, they asked me to wait before sending it because an appeal would take more than 30 days... anyways, to make a long story short; my Plan administrator decided to include the DOC band in the new policy for everyone (the catch is that It was for treatments starting April 1st 2009 - we started a couple of months before). In the end, they made an exception (my company) and they reimbursed me after co-payment and deductible (about $1,000). I am telling you this so you can contact your company, they may be able to help you, it took me a long time, but I got it.. GOOD LUCK TO YOU... oh, my son started with 24mm facial asymmetry and Cranial TEch said that he would need a 2nd band, as of today, he has 8mm facial asymmetry and Cranial Tech is telling us that we don't need to band again (we have 2 more weeks before finishing treatment). > > > > We ended up with two DOC Bands but we got a later start (9 months) because we wasted months 7 and 8 with Hangar. Guest guest
We are with CT in Oakbrook, Illinois and will be getting a second band soon. However this will be after almost 4 1/2 months of wear in the first band. Our son had pretty severe plagio (12 mm) so I kind of expected the need for a second band. Guest guest
Just wanted give an official number, the percentage of babies that need second bands from CT is 14-15% overall. It's sometimes hard for them to say for sure up front, because they never really know how much growth you're going to get, so I think they sometimes say 2 at the beginning just so you're prepared. And the complexity of brachy and plagio combined is definitely a factor. Jake-2.5 (DOCBand Grad 9/08) Jordan-5 > > We are with CT in Oakbrook, Illinois and will be getting a second band soon. Guest guest
My DS had his first band at 4.5 months for about 13 weeks, plagio was 24 mm and brachy was 96%. With his 2nd band, he was at 15 mm and 86%. He is an average grower per my DPT. > > > > We are with CT in Oakbrook, Illinois and will be getting a second band soon.
