Guest guest
Hey Lori, The situation really varies from case to case. I've heard of some people having braces for a year before surgery. I had braces for about 2.5 years back when I was 13 and got them on again 1 month ago even though my teeth were straight (i guess to prepare for surgery). I have to get surgery b/c I have an overbite and can't close my mouth. I'm only going to have them on for 3 months though and my ortho says that I'll have braces for about 8 weeks post-op, so not too long! Hopefully that helped you a little. > > > > > Hi everyone... Guest guest
Greetings from Vermont! I'm also new to this board - I'm currently in braces getting ready for a Aug surgery date (both upper and lower for an extensive overbite). I got braces last June, and 2 teeth pulled in prep for the surgery this summer. My Ortho says that I'll be in braces at least 3 months post op and as long as 6 months. My great hope is to be done by Christmas this year. I'm 37 and never had braces at all as a kid. My Ortho and OS worked together exstensively deciding on the treatment plan that I'm doing. There was some push/pull between the approaches and how much surgery and when it might be. It got a little frustrating at times because each time I saw one or the other I got a different plan. Ulitmately, they decided this was the best approach. Good luck Lori - keep asking those questions, and you'll get a good plan. Cyndy > > Hi everyone... Guest guest
I had braces on for a year and then surgery. My ortho said I should only have braces on for a couple of months after surgery. I am moving in June so I guess he has to complete his final adjustments by then (although after all this I hate to rush the process! Jane > > Hi everyone... Guest guest
That did help, a few people responded and it all helped. I just really hope my wait isn't too long, I don't need the braces to straigten my teeth as they already are, but they do need to be positioned for surg I'm sure. My appointment is next Wed so I will have a full report then. Thanks everyone/Lori > > > > > > Hi everyone... I have been checking out this group for a couple > of > > > weeks.
