What I've been doing is sauteing lean ground beef with minced onions and minced mushrooms (add herbs, Worcesterhire sauce, etc to taste). That you can add to a variety of things (mashed potatoes, creamed spinach) or add to any variety of soup or vegetable -- using a blender if you need to. If blenderized stuff seems too bland, try adding a few dollops of sour cream or horseradish for some variety. BTW, somewhere between full blenderizing and chewing again lies the magic realm of the food processor.
