Guest guest
Just learned today that I have a hernia. Along with a few other things. Can someone tell me what is involved in hernia repair? I am dreading another surgery. I had even told myself I would rather carry around an " apron " than have a Tummy Tuck. I also have an ovarian cyst and a fibroid (not to mention a benign tumor on my right kidney which I have had for awhile) Am assuming if I have the hernia repaired will have to have the ovarian cyst taken out too. If you are going to have a tummy tuck then this is the time! If you have to be opened anyhow then why not - it isn't that big a deal (since you have other work that MUST be done). I know that my tummy tuck was a condition of my hernia repair because your apron can continue to cause hernias... Hang in there... Guest guest
, I just had my 2nd hernia repair 7-11. The 1st was 10-25-02. Pretty much my whole RNY incision was open. I also had an abdoninoplasty with the repair. The plastic surgeon opened the RNY scar from breast bone to pubic bone and from right hip to left hip. He repaired the hernia(s) and then plicated the abdominal muscles. (sort of like a french seam on blue jeans) I spent the night in the hospital and went home with drains for about 2 weeks. Recovery wasn't too bad, back to the gym with no restrictions in 8 weeks. The doctor did not have to open up any body cavities with this surgery. When that happens, you get more time in the hospital. The second repair was very simple. It was a day surgery; I was in at 8am, done and home by 2pm. No drains, only a little soreness. Just some sewing around the belly button where the hernia was. Again, no body cavity entered. What you need is more complicated. Hope this helps. Margie in NM Open RNY 9-7-01 252/133ish Hernia Repair Just learned today that I have a hernia.
