Guest guest
, I have to say that your diabetes doctor is waaaaaaay off base and I hope you have a GP or other doctor that would support the decisions you make, after all this is for you, not them . As far as 20-30 year research, my doctor (Dr. Macik, Northside Bariatric in Atlanta) has patients dating back 20 years and they are doing wonderfully, when they come to the support groups everyone is so enthralled with everything they have to say. They have all kept their weight off and for the most part don't think too much about it anymore. I'm not really sure where your doctor is coming from in her philosophy, this surgery is to be used, for the most part, as a last resort when previous weight loss efforts have failed and because of that she should know that you have tried and respect your right to have the surgery if that's what you choose. I'm sure with some additional research you can find people online who have had the surgery 20+ years ago. Good luck !
