Guest guest
I haven't had the expansion done yet, but from what I've read on this board, the gap can close pretty quickly. However, it depends on when the orthodontist feels that your mouth is ready. I'm not a 100 percent positive on this, but I think that after you stop turning the key for good, you are required to have the gap for several months. Does this sound right to others who have had this done? Kate
Guest guest
Tricia, Thanks for your response. I now have a better idea on the time frame. I'm supposed to have mine done in August, but my OS is still figuring out his vacation plans! Hopefully if all goes as planned, my gap will have closed before my graduation next May. Congrats on finally getting your gap closed! You must feel so great. Kate
Guest guest
Kate, I would think that the gap would be closed before your graduation. I know how anxious it is to have it closed. I had to go to several weddings with a big gap in my front teeth. I am also a Speech Pathologist, so you can imagine how much fun I had at work! I am scheduled to have my jaw surgery this May 31st, and it seems like it's taking forever for the day to get here. Are you planning on having jaw surgery as well? Guest guest
Hi! I had SARPE done last October. My gap self closed in 3 weeks after we had stopped activating the expander. I didn't have any braces on, so I'm not sure how that works on those wearing braces: maybe they can keep the gap from closing up? On the other hand I've heard that braces can be used for closing that gap, too, so it should work OK either way. Good luck!
