Guest guest
>> I had problems eating sushi 'til I was about 2 years out. My pouch just did NOT like it (even though my mouth did). Now I can eat it with no problem, thank goodness! I adore sushi! I have a big problem with sushi, but it doesn't have anything to do with surgery -- it has to do with me hating sushi, even pre-op. I cannot wrap my brain around eating raw fish. Now will tell you that fish isn't food at all -- personally, I like pretty much everything that lives in the water that I have tried, but it HAS to be cooked. Why anyone would go through pain or even use meat tenderizer to eat raw fish and that nasty sticky rice is entirely beyond me! LOL! You all gave me my grin of the morning, though! ~~ Lyn G
Guest guest
Chris You may just have had some bad sushi. I have been eating sushi since about 4-5 months out (and am now 15 months out) and haven't had any problems with it. The sushi I will eat is the California roll, since I haven't been daring enough to try anything raw yet. I like to have sushi for lunch because the calorie count for the one I like is only 300 calories. And if you add the seaweed salad--60 calories--it makes for a great low calorie lunch. I am wondering if maybe the rice on your sushi was too pastey or thick. I know if I try to eat rice that isn't in sushi, it sits really hard/bad in my stomach. I don't know where you are from, but in South Carolina, the supermarket chain Bi-Lo sells sushi in alot of their stores. I only will eat their sushi because the rice layer is VERY thin and the rice is never pastey. It is made fresh every day. Good luck. Guest guest
I find that if the rice in the sushi isn't REAL fresh or if they cooked it " aldente " (sorry for mixing the languages) then I have problems with it. That rice loses it's moisture if it gets refrigerated or sits for too long. I have ONE Japanese restaurant that I love and I can eat their rice. The rice at our favorite Chinese restaurant, while good tasting, usually doesn't like me. Go figure. My MOST favorite thing is a Sashimi dinner....with NO rice. Just gimme that raw fish. I love it. Fortunately it loves me too.
