Guest guest
Hi. Had upper, lower and chin on Jan. 17. I was unwired and splint removed on Feb. 7 which was a scary experience. It is weird how my mouth does not feel like my mouth at all and I didn't realize how numb the inside of my mouth is. I now have a rubber band on each side of my mouth to guide my bite. My open bite is gone and I can see my teeth actually touching which is amazing. I notice though that my midlines are off and I am wondering if this is because of the swelling I still have in my nose, cheeks, lips, chin. I would assume so since I just saw the surgeon on Monday and I noticed this on Tuesday. My top and bottom teeth line up pretty good (the middle part). Has anyone else experieced this? I was told I could try eating pudding and/or no chew food in addition to blended diet. I am only opening 6mm per the surgeon. I tried but can't get a baby spoon in my mouth. I can drink from a styrofoam cup now which is so much better than using the syringe. I am scared to open my mouth actually, nervous about breaking something or messing something up even though the surgeon said it is ok to move it. Also I can still hardly talk, mouth is so stiff and swollen and roof of my mouth feels so numb and strange and big. When does this get better. Also I am drooling more now that I have been unwired and de splinted. Is this normal?
Guest guest
Hi, I had upper and lower as well on Dec. 22 and then upper again on Feb. 3rd. As far as worrying that you will mess something up that was my concern as well since I had to have surgery again. My OS said that there is no way that I could have done something to break the plate/bracket thing with the exception of getting hit in the face. He said that it was probably broke by a low-grade infection, but he didnt' seem real sure. He did say that there it was not possible that I had done it by talking too much or trying to chew or something. I also drooled nearly nonstop after my first surgery. It was pretty embarrassing. I don't really drool now though...haven't for a couple of weeks so give another week or so it will go away. I also noticied that my midline is a little off the center of my nose. My teeth line up perfect, but the center of my teeth is under my right nostril a little. No one notices unless I insist that they look close. I also noticed that on my brother who has a perfect smile and bite that his midline is slightly to the side too, so maybe it is okay/normal? I guess I need to ask my OS. Anyway, hang in there, hope everything goes well from here out, > > Hi. Had upper, lower and chin on Jan. 17. I was unwired and splint > removed on Feb. 7 which was a scary experience.
