Are you just working off of written directions?  I couldn't do that.  I waited to see a specialist to make sure I was doing things correctly and learn how far I could push her without damaging her.  I don't know if it makes a difference but Elly is a bad case and we saw a PT before she was three weeks old because even at that point her range of motion was severely limited so I was very afraid of harming her.

I am afraid that I have traumatized our daughter...it is making me literally sick thinking about how terribly she has screamed at times. I am going to lay off of them a bit, or do them very mildly until I see a specialist. Here's is my question....Does anyone else feel like this? And do you think it is traumatizing for them? I have been doing them with her screaming for 3 weeks.

i have the same questions as lina. have you seen a pt? i would stop, too, if it was making my baby scream.

we do neck exercises with alex and he doesn't even realize they are exercises. we use toys to get him to turn his head. we sit to the side we want him to look (or gasp! use the tv the same way). we do the football hold and stretch his neck muscles that way. we have him sit on a ball and self correct. we no longer have to physically push his head to the side, but even when we did that he did not cry. and we always did that one once he was good and warmed up, never right off the bat. we learned from our physical therapist, who helps us get things down each week before we leave so we know we are doing things correctly. i could never do it off printed instructions—too complicated!

good luck and keep us posted!hollymum to almost 11-month-old twins: alex (in doc band since 01/05/09) and max (no band necessary)On Fri, May 8, 2009 at 1:49 PM, Lina Gabriev <lina.gabriev@...> wrote:

This reminded me, we actually used lotion and massaged it into my son's neck

first, to warm up and loosen his muscles before doing the stretches (the PT

showed us how). That seemed to help with the stretching.

Thanks for your response. I'm doing exactly what the ped showed me to do. I've stopped doing them as frequently until I see a specialist, that the ped doesnt feel she needs. But I'm insisting. When I reduce the exercises her tort gets worse!Sent from my iPhoneOn May 8, 2009, at 10:49 AM, Lina Gabriev <lina.gabriev@...> wrote:

Also...,we do put her toys on the left, put her in postion so that she looks to us toward the left, we do the tv also.... I have even put up a mobile in a spot to the left of her. I've tried doing the holds, but I would appreciate any pics since I have only read about them online. The ped barely gave me any time either when I brought her in, or when I call. I want to stop doing the exercises until I see the specialist, but her neck gets so much worse. Ped actually wanted to wait 3 weeks till next checkup!! I'm frustrated with the medical system....and so upset about her reactions. In just the two days I've slowed them down she is really reluctant to even turn to the left and torques her head to the right more. Thanks for all your feedback. One person said to do the exercises at every diaper change until she starts to cry...that seemed like good advice. Except my daughter cries pretty

quickly!!!What to do....Sent from my iPhoneOn May 8, 2009, at 11:33 AM, "" <nwilkens2275@...> wrote:

I would definitely stop doing them until you see a PT. They will teach you ways to do it without causing pain or discomfort, just part of normal play.

My PT was surprised that she was able to get half an hour of good exercises with my guy so I guess most babies don't care for it ;o)Insist, insist, insist on the referral for the PT, if we're not good advocates for our kids who else will be? I think doctors sometimes think they know best but they don't. . .I can be a little obsessive at times but hey I'm a mom of multiples, I don't know anything different ;O)We used the big blow up exercise ball also. Put him on his belly on the ball and rolled it from side to side, that made him look up to the sky which gave him a good stretch. It's an easy stretch and you're not forcing anything so maybe try that?Later used it to help strengthen his trunk muscles to help with sitting up.I hope this helps! I wish I had some video of us doing the exercises or pics or something like that!Be still and know I am God Psalmsplagiocephaly From: jsturmak@...Date: Fri, 8 May 2009 21:11:27 +0000Subject: RE: Left Muscular Torticollis-Exercises

So, I have contacted an infant neck and head specialist in los angeles, suppossed to be one of the best PT's in the area for tort. I explained everything to her and was able to get an appt Monday. She said stop doing any exercises that are making her cry. I knew it!!!! I am so upset. Why are ped's so irresponsible and careless when it comes to this. The PT said there are many moms in exactly the same position. I feel like she has been in pain, and my husband and I have inflicted it. I don't think she is traumatized yet...she doesnt have any aversion to her head being touched, and she is loved and held and kissed all day. I am so sad that I even did them for 3 weeks. I hope she's okay.  There seems to be a good amount of plagio.. I guess we will find out Monday. Did anyone else have so much misdirection in the beginning? Also, I believe that this was caused by an unnecessary suctioning during birth, is that possible or

common?Thank you all so much for everything. Thank you for the pics, I'm going to use the carry holds, and building both sides makes perfect sense. I was thinking that. Thanks.Sent from my iPhone On May 8, 2009, at 2:11 PM, Sturmak <jsturmak@...> wrote:
