Guest guest
Can anyone tell me if your health insurance cover this procedure, what percentage of the cost and in what area of coverage (durable medical, reconstructive, etc). I am in the process in appealing my insurance (United Healthcare). They directly say in their insurance information that they will not cover the cranal cap under my plan but I know under other United Healthcare plans they may pay. Thank you. Guest guest
I have Kaiser insurance in Northern California. The band was considered to be Durable Medical Equipment (DME) and the particular Kaiser plan we had covered 80% of DME so our out of pocket expense was 20%. Guest guest
Hi Everyone - I just paid out of pocket to get my son's DOC band from Cranial Technologies in NJ. I have Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield (AKA Horizon Blue) and I was told by Cranial Tech that Empire would not pay at all. Empire told me that there are other participating providers in my area. I called one of them yesterday who gets their device from Orthoamerica. Although he was a participating provider, he told me that Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield/Horizon NEVER pays and it doesn't matter on the severity. They don't pay. I was just trying to see if I could make a case for appeal. The orthotist told me that my insurance will pay for surgery but not a band or helmet. How awful is that. Does anyone live in NJ or NY with Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield or Horizon and received any coverage at all? Thanks - le Ateniese dcateniese@... Mom to - 11 months with DOC band only 4 days! Guest guest
We have Great West in the Bay Area. (CA) Our Starband, from CIRS in Palo Alto ,was covered under durable medical, but it had to be a certain severity, we had to show that we tried repositioning, and the Dr. did put in a note about her ears asymmetry and the possible effects it could have on hearing. The insurance covered 100% (shockingly). One thing our ortho said is that if you followed a long string of companies, Great West is is owned by the company that owns a competitor helmet company. They have clients that sometimes have trouble getting coverage. Might be useful to look into other brands if they are available in your area.
