hi, hazel here, (four kids, jade, tim, ben, ollie with bcf treated

with ponsetti based method)

my eldest went " under the knife " when she was just 3 for a squint

repare. she was aloud to wear button up pyjamas, which she enjoyed

shopping for, coz they only needed to put the heart monitor on her

chest she didn't need " funny " pj's. also she was aloud to take a

teddy in with her. this teddy didn't really go with her, it stayed in

the anestetic room. i was aloud to go with her to the anistetic room

and hold her as she went under. she had fun putting a label on her

teddy just like she had. she's now 9 and still has the teddy. it's

lost its tag but she can still remember her and her teddy going into

hospital but nothing else.

i've resently given a friends 3 1/2 year old a teddy to do the same,

now it goes every where with her.

may help, may not, just gets them to think their not alone i guess.

haz of lincoln, uk.

Welll, having gone through three surgeries with Aidan (now 18 months) the best

advice I can give you is stay calm and just be there for him. You can try and

explain but he won't understand and he will be scared. Thankfully, at his young

age he probably won't remember any of it!! Trust your doctors and try not to

cry in his presence. Watching your child being wheeled off to surgery is never

easy and I think I broke down every time.

Say your prayers and just hold and comfort him.. Best of luck to you and I

wish I could have been more helpful.

Hugs, Jenn

My younger son Aidan has bcf, dbb 23/7 at 10 mos of age. He has

endured two heel cord tenotomies.

I now have an appointment for my older son Devon (3½) to see the same

Orthopedic surgeon (Dr. Noonan) tomorrow for trigger finger. I

anticipate a surgical procedure in his future and was wondering if any

of you other clubfoot parents have advice for how to prepare him for a

surgery. Due to Aidan's young age I didn't have to prepare him.

I know this is sort of off the clubfoot topic but I could use some

experienced advice.
