Someone asked about the legality of Lotus root (Nelumba sp.)

I did the research, sent a reply with 3 citations and

paragraphs, but haven’t seen my email that I sent this afternoon. The

gist of it is Lotus root is illegal because it contains polysaccharides.

Apologies if this is redundant.

With respect -- have you read Elaine Gottschall's Breaking the Vicious

Cycle?

The parameters of the Specific Carbohydrate Diet say NO POLYSACCHARIDES

ALLOWED, because polysaccharides feed the bad bacteria in our guts and

keep us sick. They are NOT " healing. "

Oh, and aloe vera juice is not legal if taken internally. It's fine if

you want to put it on your skin.

No,

polysaccharides can cause a lot of trouble, that is the point of SCD. We

avoid polysaccharides because they can’t be broken down completely in the

intestinal tract, which causes fermentation, which destroys our gut ecology….

SCD is about eating and drinking specific types of carbohydrates, and we don’t

consume polysaccharides. We focus on foods that are monosaccharides, simple

carbs. Spices are one of the few exceptions, but these are used in moderation,

not as supplementation.

So

lotus root is off-limits, as is aloe vera juice, and a lot of other things,

while you’re on SCD.
