You say: We need to be

educated, rational consumers, not suckers, and make sure our health

and well-being is the foremost concern.

Perzactly.

I, for one, would bet that whether it's Fox or ABC (or any other

channel system) the participants must sign releases before they

participate, exempting the programs from responsibility for mishaps.

(Of course, I would also guess that a good lawyer might be able to

undo these releases if something grievous happens.)

And I remember signing a contract with releases included with my

ortho and with the hospital (perhaps with my surgeons as well). But

they had considerable years of schooling, training and experience to

back them up. So do the Tee-Vee folks, but theirs, I think, is in

marketing and Nielsens. (I'm not talking about their docs, nor

suggesting that they're unqualified. But I think I'd rather have

medical stuff done to me in the hands of folks who're trying to get

me the best results, than directed by those who want to perpetuate

their audience-winning tee-vee programs! Bear-baiting, anyone?

Gladiators? Oh. Forgot. That last one has been done already.)
