Guest guest
, My doctor does nothing but stress the need for the adequate amount of protein per day 50-60 grams. If this isn't met you could lose your hair along with it doing damage to muscle tissue (this includes your heart muscle). You should really check with your doctor right away. I try to get my protein in first then worry about the rest. Take care and have a good day! Laurette 4/23/04 Open St. Charity Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio 309/290/265/??? Guest guest
, But how did you get the protein in if you can't eat enough to do it and don't use the shakes or protein powder? I'm struggling since I can't hardly eat much at all. May 1/2 to 3/4 cup if I'm lucky at a meal and I'm 6 weeks out today. Any and all suggestions are welcomed. Thanks, Laurette 4/23/04 309/290/265/???

Guest guest
Absolutely not! There's no hard and fast rule here. Try and get the protein in other ways. Talk to your doctor, mine doesn't promote use of protein shakes even though I do them from time to time. I by no means rely on them though. I prefer to get my protein through more solid forms once I was allowed to do so. Guest guest
Yeah, if you can't eat much yet then your best option are the shakes or protein powder mixed with skim milk or soy milk. By 5-6 weeks I was on chicken and fish and had started getting plenty, but everyone's different. I still don't think I get more than about 1/2 cup at a meal, but I still get 50-70 grams of protein a day. Monitor and see how close you're coming. I was focused on the protein powder the first 2-3 weeks but after that I only use it as a supplement when I need it before workouts and for a boost. Maybe you could find one you like? Have you tried some of the different kinds people have suggested on here? I use Pure Whey Vanilla and EAS Carb Control. Mainly I just try to keep protein around everywhere, turkey rolls, prepared chicken strips (Perdue/Louis Rich), string cheese, nuts, those are all my main focus foods and even small amounts really add up to a lot of protein throughout the day. Good luck, I know it can be tough Laurette! Guest guest
Ask your doctor first, I would say yes, because you are not getting enough protien in your system. Protien eats fat, so I would think you would lose much more weight with the protien drinks.
