Hard feelings?

Whose feelings?

surgery for a seven month old yankeeclippe...

Offline

Send Email

Folks, I've just joined your group and I was wondering if anyone

could give me insight on how to handle surgery for my seven month

old. He lives in Europe while I live in the U.S. His mom has been

messaging foot and it has improved but the doctor now recommends

surgery. She is worried and doesn't seem to trust the doctor fully.

Can anyone tell me:

1 - surgery risks - can the child's life/health be endangered

2 - surgery pros and cons

3 - if known, reputable surgeons/facilities in Europe (particular

anyone in Ukraine)

4 - if known, reputable surgeons/facilities in Washington, DC or NY

I just looked again and it looks like a yahoo ID.

I can speak to my own experiences, I cannot speak with the authority

or provide the plethora of links you guys can provide to help this

family out or I would have responded myself.

I also absolutely do not want to instigate any issues, anywhere, on

any site. I have seen postings from the moderator that lead me to

believe that if I didn't really watch my response, I might hurt

feelings. I am not trying to cause a problem, I am trying to be

sensitive to feelings using the experiences I have had since I've

been around (late Sept/Oct).

P.S. In case anyone is wondering,........... what the hell is she

doing here? I am 10 weeks post op, in a non weight bearing cast

(read on crutches) and believe me, spending alot of time thinking

about my clubfoot and all its history and issues.

I don't even know what surgery site you're referring to. Anyway, this guy

is only 40 minutes (according to MapQuest which is often wrong) from our

Dr. Tuck (who wasn't just trained by Dr. P. but actually worked in Iowa

with him for several years) in Rockville, and about an hour from Dr.

Herzenberg in Baltimore. You need to get his email address so we can

respond to him. If not, I may actually pick up the phone and call a

stranger (I'd much rather do it by email).

I believe its a yahoo extension........... emailed me privately

and suggested that I email him privately. I hesitated because I

cannot provide the informed and gentle introduction into the Ponseti

Method that you guys can and I know how important it is to give good

information. But after some thought I sent this:

Hello ,

I am a part of several different sites. You may want to post on the

other Yahoo health.group sites, there is the clubfoot site, and the

nosurgery4clubfoot site that can offer links to doctors, hospitals,

and basic anatomical information that can help you make informed

choices.

I am a 42 year old with a severe right clubfoot who was treated

extensively with all types of surgery, I am currently recovering

from a heel reconstruction and my 4th or 5th achellies tendon

lengthening.

I am only an expert on myself and the experiences I have had.

The parents on the sites I mentioned have copious amounts of

experience with infants and children along with access to the

medical research to provide the peace of mind that they are doing

the best for their children.

I look forward to seeing you there!

Please let me know if there's anything else I can do to help.

I just joined the surgery group so I could respond to him. I could've

just sent him a direct email at that point but decided to just lay it all

out there for everyone and sent it as a reply to the group. After almost

getting surgery for my son I'd like everyone to know the options. We'll

see what he says. If necessary I'll actually talk to him - hey, it's a

local call for me.

Thank you Seth, again, for your help. I really kinda freaked out

when I saw his post. I knew what sort of reply he should receive

and knew I am not able to provide the depth of information necessary.

As always, this place brings a smile to my face. You all do such

important things here!!

Hey ,

I have seen some of your postings on the clubfoot board and they have

been really thoughtfull and kind. Time heals all wounds right and as

far as I'm concerned, you are welcome to post here anytime you like =)

I was never mad at ya anyway btw, hard to imagine all the pain you

have endured and are enduring, couldn't really put myself in your

shoes so decided to just not get upset. I think that after being on

these boards and doing some reading/research that you have done a

total turn around and are now a supporter of a non-surgical approach

first now anyway and I think that you have some really good advise

for parents so I for one am glad that you are posting again =)

Thank you, . You all are wonderful teachers and provide

terrific links to sites that are pretty convincing. What really

opened my eyes was following the different links to the stories

regarding the experiences of the children you all have so graciously

posted. The results are amazing!!!

I can't repeat often enough, I hope to help in anyway I can. Take

care and again, thank you for your kind thoughts.---

Hi ,

He also posted on the clubfoot board and got several

responses pointing him to the Ponseti method.

Cheers,

with (3y)

and Alister (3y, RCF, Ponseti method, UK)

PS: Sorry if someone has already replied about this, I

just can't keep up with all the emails... :)
