Hi ,

I was cleaning out my email and noticed your post and also checked and saw that no one responded.

I am one who is jealous of your numbers so it's difficult to respond. is pretty much at a 0 mm plagio, but her Brachy number was 92.4 a few weeks ago. I'm thinking we are going to end somewhere around the 91 to 92 mark.

I can relate to not being happy about something when others are. My partner said that looked great around the time that the ortho was pushing for us to stop because of 's age. While I saw great improvement, I knew that we were still outside of normal and wanted to continue. We didn't really fight about it, but I felt like there wasn't a good understanding of my feelings or a perception that I couldn't accept as anything less than perfect.

Something to keep in mind is that the stats that say that 86 is outside of normal are quite old. I've read several places that the experts believe that the numbers have gone up, with an average probably around 80 or 82 (rather than 78).

Also, the standard the you are using for normal is one standard deviation for normal. According to that standard, a full 15 percent of people are walking around with Brachycephaly (remember your stats about the normal curve). Your baby is not in the worst 2.5 percent (as 2 standard deviations would be). In many fields (including my own), 2 standard deviations is generally the standard that is used to indicate a significant problem. Between one and two standard deviations is kind of an "at risk" type area. My ortho considers anything below 91.2 to be normal.

Another thing to consider is that those stats you are referring to showed that boys heads were wider, with 91.2 being two standard deviations versus 87.5 for girls. So, I'm guessing that an 86 is really close to that one standard deviation for a boy.

So, maybe your son doesn't have the narrowist of heads, but I doubt that an 86 looks very wide compared to the average baby these days.

Maybe my response doesn't really help you, but I thought I'd give you another perspective. I don't really know the answers to your questions.

Did actually graduate yet?

Did I just post? This stupid computer!!!! Anyway...done but not happy

I don't know if my first attempt at this was posted.Anyway, last week was 's last visit to the ortho. He is down to 0mm asymmetry (having started at 11mm) and 86.25% C.I. (having started at 94%). I went to the appointment prepared to really push for more time in the Starband to correct the brachy, but when we got there I found out that is just about to outgrow the helmet! He only had it for 3 months, but had two major growth spurts during that time. He started at 6 months old.The orthotist and my husband are both really happy with 's headshape, but I am not so satisfied, because the C.I. is still notin the normal range. The rest of us in our family have very averageC.I.'s, I'd say by looking, so I think 's brachy was reallycaused by positional conditions (including the two months of repo). I have to admit, though, that his head is round and not flat in theback. The high C.I. looks more to be due to a very wide spot in themiddle, like above the ears. I'm sorry I don't have new pictures topost. If you look at the ones I posted earlier under P.you'll get an idea. (Might be a bit better now.)Here are my questions: is it even possible for us to get a secondband with those numbers? How long would it take with a band to seecorrection down to the low 80's? Finally, has anyone (???)seen improvement in the C.I. over time without a band? There was astudy someone posted here indicating that that is likely, but it wasa really small study. Fortunately, likes to sleep completelyon his side now (either one) so at least I don't have to watch himlying on the back.I know a lot of you would be thrilled to have measurements like mine, so I apologize for whining about it! Perhaps someone on here has had a similar experience.
