Guest guest
I have been in casts for many weeks at a time, I can tell you from personal experience that Benedryl is very helpful. Casts can be very difficult for the patient if they are too tight. With my clubfoot, I have a nerve that is close to the surface in my little toe. The slightess bit of pressure is very painful. I have had no surgery in that site and no one would know that site is painful if I didn't tell them. The point being, if your child is constantly uncomfortable, take your child to the ortho take the cast off and clean the skin to alleviate possible bacterial contamination that can cause itching. Take your child's discomfort seriously and if the discomfort continues, have the cast taken off and your child's skin/foot examined. You should NEVER stick anything in the cast or take anything out of the cast. The less active you are the less it will itch. You can also use a hair dryer at a cold air only to blow inside or sit by a fan. I know how hot and humid it is there so try to stay in airconditioning if you can. The last tip is for night time only, ask Mom or Papa for benadryl or any over the counter antihistimine. > > hi. > > as you might know, JM, my 4 turning 5 year old son just got his first cast under the ponseti treatment. > > he is complaining about an itchiness at the part near his groin cast. what should i do? he can't sleep because of it and i'm not sure how to deal with it. > > please help me. thanks! > > cynthia > > > > > --------------------------------- > Yahoo! Guest guest
thank you for all your replies. it sure calmed me down. we tried the benadryl and it helped him sleep. he took it for only 2 days. the itching is still there but not as much as the first two days of casting. thanks so much! cynthia and jm Cawley wrote: I have been in casts for many weeks at a time, I can tell you from personal experience that Benedryl is very helpful.
