Guest guest
There is a book that is about to hit the stands. I found it yesterday when I was doing a search. I will find the site and post it here for everyone. QUESTIONS ????? HELP CONCERNING HAIR & SKIN PROBLEMS AFTER SURGERY???? HI ALL! First off I want to say I am doing good 4 months post op surgery; but have some concerns. I have been experiencing some small patches of dry skin and my long nails have dwindled to stubbles and my hair is of course falling out in globs. I have been taking Biotin and eating jello and trying to eat my daily dose of protien... But it seems my hair loss is worse than ever and it has caused my phsorises (cant spell it) to flair up and usually the medication I would take would clear it up in one day but not now... Any suggustions would be appreciated. Other than that I feel I am doing pretty good; I am able to eat almost anything I want (of course within reason) and havent had a problem with dumping. I sure wish we had a good cook book for us who have had surgery because it would be nice to have different things to try and create; although I have subsistuted some things and made some of my own concoctions, but Its really hard doing all the calculating on what is what with calories and carbs and fat grams; wow this is work this losing weight thing....lol.... Well I hope all is well with everyone else and talk with you all soon I SURE HOPE MORE SHOW UP FOR GROUP CHAT NEXT WEEK LAST WEEK WAS A BUST AGAIN......(SAD VERY SAD) WI 498/421/250 Surgery date: Dec 3, 2003 Dr. Weiland/Wausau WI _________________________________________________________________ Find a broadband plan that fits. Guest guest
Hi Diane, I was told your hair will fall out because of the fast weight loss BUT it will grow back. The biotin is good also drinking protein will help. I have heard many on the site and off, say a medicated shampoo helps. My husband uses a store-brand medicated shampoo and he swears by it. Also, the only thing I know about nails (and I was trying to find the article on it but no success) is if you aren't getting enough protein you will get ridges in your nails. I also found this Vitamins Deficiency Vitamin A: A fat-soluble vitamin which does not occur in nature by itself but which is formed from yellow substances (carotene) occurring in plants, by the walls of the intestines and in the liver and kidneys. The liver is the main storage depot for Vitamin A; thus it is found in such high concentration in fish-liver oils. It has several known functions in the human body: It is essential for maintaining the mucous membranes of the mouth, nose, throat, lungs, ears and other body organs in healthy condition; it is necessary for healthy skin, bones and teeth and normal growth; it plays a part in reproduction and lactation; and it is indispensable for maintaining good vision, especially in dim light. It combines with protein to form a pigment in the retina of the eye called visual purple. Light-whether artificial light or sunlight-reaching the eyes breaks down part of this pigment, setting up nerve impulses which inform the brain of what is seen. The formation and breakdown of visual purple is a continuous cycle whose efficiency is dependent on an adequate supply of Vitamin A. The earliest sign of vitamin A deficiency is usually night blindness. (A person who, when driving a car at night finds it difficult to see the road clearly after being " blinded " by oncoming lights, is suffering from a degree of night blindness.) Mild deficiencies result in roughness and dryness of the skin, especially the elbows, knees, and buttocks. The hair becomes dry and the fingernails may become ridged. A degree of night blindness may appear. More sever deficiencies lead to inflamed eyelids, eyestrain, frequently occurring sties, the drying up of the various mucous membranes of the throat, ears, and lungs and disturbances in digestion. Very severe deficiencies may lead to growth retardation in children and eye diseases severe enough to result in blindness. Deficiencies are caused by factors other than inadequate. Those whose diets are low in fat frequently are deficient in Vitamin A. Hope this was a little helpful Colleen QUESTIONS ????? HELP CONCERNING HAIR & SKIN PROBLEMS AFTER SURGERY???? HI ALL!
