Guest guest
I suspect that in this matter, as in most matters orthognathic, it depends on what you're having done and how the surgeon does it. I do know that for my lower advancement, my surgeon did not sever the nerve. But there are a bunch of more complicated procedures, in both upper and lower, which may have different approaches and different results. I know. I was really, really fortunate. I'm not gloating, just grateful. Cammie > > > > > > > > I am 5 months post-op and still have signficant numbness in my > > > upper > > > > gum and back by my lower molars. Is this common? Guest guest
I was told that for the major nerve along the lower jaw, they would not cut it. They would have to cut the lower jaw as far as they could and then pull the rest to crack it. Then they have to make sure the nerve is on the correct piece...I can't remember which side it's suppose to be on. In my case, they had to disect the nerve and move it on my right side...that's why I still have some numbness and tingling on my right side, mostly at my chin. My surgeons said that the numbness could stick around for a very long time or it could just go away. Now, my palate and my upper gums are still numb. It kind of makes it hard to eat with a numb palate. The soft palate is fine, it's just the hard palate in the front that is numb. My lower gums are fine. ~ > > > > > > > > > > I am 5 months post-op and still have signficant numbness in > my > > > > upper > > > > > gum and back by my lower molars. Is this common?
