Geesh - I have not even talked to a surgeon yet - just you people on this list andd other DS lists. I sure haven't been told the DS is good by anyone gaining financially from my getting DS! None of you get a cut of the surgeon's fees, do you?? Carole
Guest guest
I keep hearing about surgeons who are " pushing " the RNY because they make more money in less time. I don't know who these surgeons are, but it doesn't describe mine, Dr. Jerzey Mercura. I hadn't heard about the DS and went to him expecting the RNY. During the intake questions, the nutritionist said that the doctor would probably advise the DS for me. It took me a while after that before I saw the doctor, so my DH and I spent the time reading the booklet they gave me about the differences. Dr. Macura said that I should do better with the DS but left it up to me. He didn't seem concerned with the fact that he could do more RNY's in a day and therefore make more money. Also seems there have been some comments about the fact that the doctor will accept the small amount the insurance company pay, but charges the selfpay patient thousands more. This is not the doctors greed causing it. This is the way the insurance companies work. They look at what all the doctors in the area are charging for the same thing then figure what they will pay. If the doctor accepts the same from a selfpay as what the insurance company will give him, they the insurance company will reduce what they will pay. It's a crazy way to do business, but that is the way it works.
