Guest guest
Thanks to all who wrote with caring and humor. It is Saturday morning, though I am in a stupor from the Percoset, and I really don't much care what time it is (other than i have to get real in order to officiate at a wedding late this afternoon) or even what i weigh at the moment. The pain got so bad yesterday, and the one Percoset didn't help, so I called the urologist. By then, they had left for the day, so my call was returned by another member of the practice who was on duty this weekend. He told me that it is not unusual to have spasms up to 24 hours after having passed a kidney stone, and since I had passed them two days in a row, and because the X-Ray did not show any more stones, he thought that it I was experiencing spasms. My temperature had begun to rise (to 99.5ºF, not really bad, except that it was rising), so he prescribed Cipro (antibiotic) just in case there might be an infection, which he said is rare. I went along with that, because I understand that it can have the same beneficial effect on bowel problems as Flagyl--so this was a two-fer. And, he told me to take two Percosets every 3-4 hours instead of one every 4-6 hours. So, I have not felt the pain, though when the Percoset wore off at 2 AM and 6:30 AM, I took just one Percoset, and that seemed to do the trick. So, here I am, stoned on Percoset, and it's all legal! There is still some residual pain when the Percoset wears off, but it is more of a hint than a bother, so I think that i am on the mend. From the color of my last urine (somewhat dark, despite my guzzling water), I still think that there could be another kidney stone wending its way to the orifice. But, if that is the case, judging from the decreased pain intensity, it must be beyond the ureter and into the bladder by now. Hull shared some info with me (thanks, Chris!) that indicated that the stones are probably the result of my not having taken enough calcium, rather than too much. Counter-intuitive, perhaps, but empirically reasonable. Gonna eat some Greek food now: Acidophilus. --Steve --

When in la la land life is easier to cope with. Want to share? Get well soon.
