It sounds as if your child has A-Typical CF AKA Complex CF. If this is the case

the Markells are not tolerated, and act more as a torture device. The s

are made for A-Typicals. I would take some pics, and send them to Dr. Ponseti,

and the group. If he does have A-Typical you need to know and order those

s ASAP!

Hi nne,

I live just outside of Boston, and my daughter, Maddie, is being

treated at Children's by both Dr. Mahan and Dr. Kasser, who is on Ponsetti's

list. We were being treated in Worcester, but the doctor there messed up

Maddie's feet. He moved her into the Markells before her feet were fully

corrected. She screamed and wouldn't sleep when she wore her shoes. Leif's

feet may not be fully corrected yet, so you may want to check that out. Maybe

the brace/shoes aren't fitted right? What doctor are you seeing? Glad to find

someone in the Boston area in this group.

Hello All,

My 11 week old son Leif (bilateral club feet) was just fitted for

Markell shoes after 7 weeks of casting and 3 weeks post tenotomy. He

is not tolerating the shoes at all. He screams the minute I put them

on, won't sleep, won't nurse with them on. I have noticed others use

the brace, and it is more tolerated? I have read the post

about how to put on the shoes and I am doing it correctly, he has very

small feet and I just think the strap in the middle is digging into

his fat feet. His right foot is worse than his left and has a crease

in the bottom of it that is still present after treatment.

If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them!

Thanks,

nne (Boston, MA)

Well I know what you are going through. My son was in the Markells

and we had to move to the s. The s have been a god send. The

Markells would not work for due to his small, chubby feet with a bit of

complexity according to Dr. Ponseti. My son was treated under the Method here

in Arkansas but we were having so many issues with the Markells so I went to Dr.

Ponseti. My son had lost so much correction during our Markell use. He would

not sleep or nurse with those shoes and he screamed when we " tried to place them

on his feet " . They would be on maybe 30 minutes and then magically he was

throwing them across the room with the strength in his legs.

Are you sure your baby is fully corrected? You may want to email Dr. Ponseti

for his advice and go from there. Let me know if I can be of any help to you. I

k now you are having a tough time....

Thank you for your response. Leif returned to Dr. Kasser today and

was recasted awaiting the arrival of the 's in about 3 weeks

(we will get the foot impression friday, then back in casts until

they are ready) At least Leif is happy in casts! Has anyone had any

trouble with the 's???
