Guest guest
In a message dated 01-08-11 20:49:21 EDT, you write: << I've heard, however, that it can have a " grassy " taste >> I guess it all depends on your taste buds! We add flaxseed meal to cereal, pancakes, bread, whatever, and no one has complained about the taste. Or maybe we've just gotten used to it, but no one ever turned their noses up at the beginning, either. I have noticed that packaged flaxseed tastes a bit different from whole flax seed that you buy and grind yourself (in a coffee grinder is fine). Also, it's a good idea to refrigerate the flaxseed. I think I read somewhere it could go rancid if you don't, or something like that.. Good luck, Debbie
Guest guest
I add one or two tablespoons of flaxseed meal to several different recipes. I have not noticed any difference in taste, but you do see little flecks of seed (like in the whole wheat bread we used to eat.) It is particularly good as a binder (soaked in a little water) in meatballs, pizza dough, even ice cream. (Ice cream has the advantage of not being heated, so you are sure to not harm the beneficial oils in the flax.) As a binder, 2 Tbsp. of flaxseed meal soaked in a half cup of water is the amount I usually use.Hope this helps.
