Guest guest
I can't explain it, but I can tell you that many long term post ops are on prilosec. Guest guest
My surgeons have now put all of their postops on either Aciphex or Prevacid " forever " . They are finding that not only do we have acid, but because the pouch is so small, the acid doesn't have as much room to disperse/dilute. One postop ended up in the ER with 2 perforated ulcers and peritonitis and within an hour they had her in the OR completely redoing her surgery (and she was only 7 months postop and had NO symptoms beforehand!). My surgeon said they had read a study about it as well. Sandy Boca Raton, FL postop ~ 03/27/02 265/
Guest guest
Thanks Fay. I have been on Prilosec since the beginning.... and before. The doctor switched me to Nexium. He says that sometimes there is just enough of a different chemical make up between the meds that one might work where the other doesn't. Seems strange that my meds for depression stopped working around the same time. Needless to say, I'm in pain AND depressed. Not a great combo. Thank you for responding so quickly. Guest guest
He didn't say. He did say that he was " confused " by it all. It even hurts when I take a sip of water. I can feel the water go down, and when it hit the stomach (pouch, or whatever) the pain gets worse. Not good, because I don't want to put anything in my mouth at this poin, including water. I have an Upper GI scheduled for Monday. Hopefully that will tell us something. Tigger > Did he call it a marginal ulcer? > > > Thanks, > > > Vitalady, Inc. Guest guest
You can develop ulcers from aspirin or other NSAID anti-inflammatory drugs. I developed two ulcer from my gout medication. Guest guest
I haven't been taking any NSAIDs or aspirin. I've had a history of ulcers in the past, and they have been banned for me for a long time. At one time I had three ulcers in various parts of my stomach. Thanks though Ray, I appreciate your input. Guest guest
Well, I guess I've got a few more meds to try.... I've tried the Prevacid, and Prilosec and neither seemed to work well. Now we're trying the Nexium. I hope this helps. It's awful when you drink a sip of water and it feels like an atomic bomb going off inside you! Thanks for the info, I wasn't aware that there were that many occurrences. It lessens the confusion a little. Guest guest
This sounds so much like when I had an intestinal hernia/kink/twist. Has he ruled that out? Guest guest
Wouldn't that have shown up on the CT scan? I don't really know. I'm pretty frustrated. There have been times in the past month that I truly wished I hadn't had the surgery. Tigger > > > Did he call it a marginal ulcer? > > > > > > > > > Thanks, > > > > > > > > > Vitalady, Inc.
