Guest guest
, Tenny was 7 months when he went into the FAB. For the shopping cart we usually just stuck him in the cart and piled stuff around him. Since I have such a wonderful assortment of different sized children, someone is always packed in with groceries anyway, we just swapped places. We don't get to town often and never had enough excuses to look for a more creative solution. Never have used the exersaucer so can't help there. I can tell you that the FAB never slowed Tenny down a bit. He crawled a month after he got his, and walked at 13 months. He is now almost 18 months and he is a little monkey. So watch out. older baby in FAB gets out of his tenotomy cast next Friday and will be in the FAB 23/7. He will be nearly 7 months when he starts, older than many babies here. Any suggestions on how to deal with shopping carts, etc, because he doesn't fit into the infant carseat anymore? Also, his first doctor said it was ok to use an exersaucer when he got into the FAB, just to take of the bar when I put him in (and I assume reattatch it once he is in). Having no clue yet as to how easy/difficult this may be, I am not sure if it is a good idea to use it once he is in the FAB. He and I both love it (I am not sure which one of us likes it the most!) ,lcf, 6-19-
Guest guest
Our little fellow will also be ~7 months when he is ready for the 23/7 bar. We never even thought of the shopping cart and car seat issue - thanks for bringing it up - this gives us a little planning time. Guest guest
kelsey was 12 months old when she went into her FAB for the 23/7. I feel your pain. As for shopping carts, we would put her down in the main basket part of the cart with a blanket or such. It did make it impossible for me to do large shopping trips with just me. Mu husband would come along and have one cart for the kids and one for the groceries. Other times, we had a sutemi pack baby carrier, which I could strap on and be able to put her on my hip to help me with carrying her. This helped me often as I also had a three year old to deal with at the time. It also worked for tummy to tummy carrying and as a backpack. You can view this at www.peppermint.com if you are interested. For restaurants etc, we started carrying our own booster seat thing in the trunk. We got one of the ones that straps to a chair and has a seatbelt and a tray so it was basically like a high chair. She could go into this easily and we did not have to mess with her shoes at all. We did not do the exersaucer thing with Kelsey and we never actually removed her shoes from her bar although I know many other have done so without too much difficulty. Kelsey was already standing and beginning to walk behind push toys etc when she was put into the FAB. After a few days, she continued to do the same activities only she balanced on her brace like a skateboard and rocked herself along behind the same toys. Hope this helps. let me know if you have any other questions I can help with. Jenni artlovr wrote: gets out of his tenotomy cast next Friday and will be in the FAB 23/7. Guest guest
wore her brace full time from 5.5-8.5 months old. I just got really adept at taking one shoe off, sliding the free end of the brace through the foot hole (shopping carts, restaurant high chairs, our stroller, exersaucer etc.) and then putting the foot back in the shoe. She was crawling, pulling up to a stand etc. with the brace on...just like the other posters have noted. Nothing slows them down! I was expecting a really tough transition to the brace too since she was " older " and more set in her ways, but we had absolutely no issues whatsoever. Hopefully you will have the same experience! Guest guest
It will be really easy to unscrew a shoe from the bar and then put a foot through a shopping cart and screw it back to the shoe...I never thought of doing that, I read a few in this thread and I'm not sure who suggested it, but it's a good tip! & Rory rcf 11-2-05 > > > > wore her brace full time from 5.5-8.5 months old. Guest guest
My son was about 9 months old when he got his FAB. He fought me most of the time. After a while (maybe 2 months) he gave up. Now he is 18 months old and when he gets sleepy, he brings me his bar! Sometimes he even tries to help me put it on. Of course every baby is different. As for the shopping cart, I just set him in the larger part and went to the bakery for a complimentary cookie to keep him from wanting to stand up. Moms are VERY resourceful and I know you will come up with your own techniques. Hope this helps you somehow LOL! > > gets out of his tenotomy cast next Friday and will be in the > FAB 23/7. Guest guest
I did the same, with the basket portion of the grocery cart, (or just used our stroller, if I was just getting a few items.) another idea.. you could still use your infant carseat in the store, or a restaurant, even if you don't still use it in the car. Guest guest
That idea always freaked me out though, because then in the event of an emergency my baby is physically stuck in this shopping cart and cannot be removed with out undoing the screws. You know, he chokes or the store catches on fire or the carts tips over....ya, sorry I'm gloom and doom momma here but never say never, either. I always used my sling to carry him on me while I shopped. s. Guest guest
Actually, you'll find that it's super easy to adjust the FAB. Just make a note of what angle it's set at when you get it (there are numbers on the metal plate attached to the bottom of the shoes) and then unscrew the bar and reattach it when baby is in place. Just don't forget the bar is there when you go to get him out of the shopping cart And you don't have to worry about him standing up while in the shopping cart! If only all children could wear them...... Marcia mom to two non-cf kiddos who could have benefited from the use of the FAB and one cf dd who is benefitting from the use of it older baby in FAB gets out of his tenotomy cast next Friday and will be in the FAB 23/7. Guest guest
ee, haha, I had been thinking the same thing. My husband always labels me a worrier, but I can't help it. Guest guest
I must be much less coordinated then you girls! I tried the exersaucer and it is now banished for a little while. I unscrewed the shoes from the bar, put Logan in, then l was laying on the floor trying to put the bar on while he was squirming around playing. It took a while. and Logan 4.5mo 1.5mo in 23/7 FAB Re: older baby in FAB ee, haha, I had been thinking the same thing. My husband always labels me a worrier, but I can't help it. Guest guest
Funny you all were thinking that...I was too! I was wondering what to do if I had to leave the store in a hurry. I drive my husband crazy sometimes worring about things. > > > > > > > > wore her brace full time from 5.5-8.5 months old. Guest guest
for whatever it's worth, if you have the gold bar it takes all of about 3 seconds to unbolt the shoe. The red bar, no go. Need a tool. But the gold bar is very simple and easy to undo. And after a while... it's even easy to get the shoes off the foot in about 5 seconds. I know, seems daunting at first but after 3y of this now I am pretty darn quick with it!
