Guest guest
All of my docs-- have insisted I get the shots. I know there is alot of scare about them-- however, all the news reports are telling people that with immune compromised systems and diseases that it is important that we get the shots. Even if your county/state health center is out, call your local docs-- they too ordered the shots, most the regular shot, and some (pulmonologists, rheumi's, neurologists--since they are the docs most likely to put us on immunosupressants) have also ordered the swine flu shots. What the reports are saying is that pregnant women, those of us immune suppressed, and infants under 6mo and kids 7-18, need the injections. That is the "dead" vaccine. The other ages of kids can get the nasal inhallent--- and the general public can use the inhaled. Each of you should be asking this question with YOUR MD's. I've ALWAYS been instructed to get the shots-- and I'm on 3 immunosuppressants. Plaquenil, Methotrexate and Remicade. To catch any form of the flu would put me in the hospital- and probably on a ventilator. With only 46% lung volume, any respiratory infection is going to do more harm than to expect my body to be able to fight anything. Walgreen's, CVS, Costco, and many of the pharmacies are offering clinics-- just present your Medicare card-- and it's no cost. MediCaid programs (state programs) are also no cost. Most insurances-- now cover flu shots 100% as they know prevention is less expensive than having us in hospitals. When I worked in medicine as administration-- even during the years of being "just" on prednisone-- the docs insisted on me getting the shot. It is extremely rare that we had any of our patients come down with the flu because of the shot. If they got sick, it was because they had an allergy to eggs-- which is what they grow the virus in-- and develop the vaccine from that medium. Needless to say, if you are allergic to eggs-- don't get the vaccine. I got my regular shot last week, and I could tell my immune system had to work a little bit, I slept for an extra day and ran a slight fever for a day-- but it has already gone away. There was no other side effects, and since I had my shot last Friday, and my Remicade on Monday-- I see this as a good thing! The Swine Flu is hitting the lungs really hard- and for those of us that do have pulmonary involvement-- we know that a simple cold is a major battle and we have to really watch that we don't get pnuemonia. Again-- Each of you should be asking this question with YOUR MD's. Guest guest
Jessie, I too am afraid of the H1N flu shot for me or my asthmatic son. I have neurosarcoidosis, so I have been complying to advice I found on the internet about using lots of organic (or pure) olive oil in all our meals. I mix it with salads and use it for frying and baking. Of course, I believe in its qualities as I am a born-again believer in the Word of God; and olive oil is used as a blessing product for those who are sick. Also, in bible days olive oil was used for food preparation. So why not use it for cleaning our bodies. Even if you don't believe in the Lord, using olive oil will not hurt you but will only benefit your diet. Try it and let me know how it tastes - you just may be keeping the swine flu away!! Guest guest
Olive oil is a great antioxident. It is proven to lower LDL-- "lousy" cholestrol. That also makes it a great addition to our diet-- and is considered very "heart healthy." What is even more beneficial is Olive Leaf Extract. Here is an article from the TOWNSEND REPORT that is a mainstay magazine that alternative health care providers subscribe to. http://www.seagateproducts.com/ss-images/townsend-letter-may.pdf?PHPSESSID=296bc75e50cc1861a502a2b12d28435e Every now and then, I purchase a copy at the local health food store, and it never disappoints. (Man, I can't spell tonight)- anyway- check this out-- and do remember that anytime we add anything that has the ability to increase our immunity, that we may be telling our body to attack us even more intensly. Sarcoidosis has turned on our immune system and it's in hyperdrive. Our immune system looks at our bodies as needing healing, somewhere, so it is sending out huge amounts of white cells, which then trigger the next level of immunity to send TNF-a cells to clear out the white cells. Then the next step is that the immune system sends TNF-b to clear out the TNF-a-- and our bodies don't "Clear" anything. What happens is that the cells become granulomas and anchor in for the long run. This changes the structure of whatever space is invaded-- and then the organ doesn't work correctly. I went to my MD today, and they'd just gotten the H1N1 vaccine in yesterday, so I got my shot today. She wasn't letting me out of that office until I did get it-- as her take is better to be somewhat protected than be at high risk from the immunosuppresants, and at high risk from advanced sarcoidosis. So far, I've just a good headache. I"ll let ya all know if I end up in trouble.
