Keeping Casts Dry

Maddie came through her tenotomy and anesthesia fine. Now I have

another question. She'll have these casts for three weeks and we need

to keep them dry. Any advice about leaky diapers? Maddie has

christened everyone of her previous casts, so any advice on keeping

them dry and clean would be greatly appreciated.

Cover it with a man's tube sock, a thick one (cut the toes out of it

if you need to). It might get damp, but the sock will absorb the

liquid before it can damage the cast, then you just take the sock off

and replace it with a new one.

Also, before diaper changing, cover the cast with a lap pad or other

water-proof material. Just drape it over the cast.

If it's any consolation, Marcus got poop on his first cast 2 hours

after it was put on. We were in the car driving home from the

appointment.
