Guest guest
Hey,Is avocado legal on the intro? Also, forgive my ignorance/overlooking, what is DCCC stand for? Thanks guys! Meli Looks like others have given you some suggestions on your first question. My body doesn’t tolerate most of the intro. diet foods, so I substitute others that are the easiest for my digestion to cope with. As to your second question. Including dairy in your intro. diet might be problematic, depending on your symptoms. In a general way, we don’t take supplements or have yogurt during the 2 or 3 days we’re on the intro. diet. DCCC can be used in the cheesecake recipe, if your body tolerates it (mine doesn’t), and the cheesecake is permitted during the intro. diet. But not everyone tolerates it. Depends on your symptoms. As soon as you come off the intro. diet, though, you want to try introducing the 24-hour yogurt fairly soon, even if it’s only a teaspoon once a day. Most of the lactose has been removed by the longer fermentation, so you’ll just get the probiotic benefits and none of the sugars to feed candida. You want to continually replenish your beneficial bacteria levels as you kill off the candida, so the sooner you can get regular amounts of yogurt or a legal Acidophilus or S. Boulardii supplement, the better. Some fruits can be used in moderation, even if you’re dealing with candida. Just have a small serving of a cooked or juiced fruit every other day or two. Stick to the least-sweet fruits. There are some important nutrients in fruit. You just need to limit the amount of sugar if you’re dealing with candida. Honey tends to cause problems, though, so it is wise to avoid it until you feel your candida levels are under control again. Keep asking questions. There is a lot of information to absorb. Kim M. My assumption is that they are allowed on the diet because they are virtually free of lactose and therefore being free of lactose it would mean that there's nothing there for the yeast to feed on and so I should be ok eating them on the intro diet...? I plan on staying away from fruit and honey for the time being until the candida issue has been cleared up, it's just this dairy question which I'm unsure about. Guest guest
Kat- How did you know your Candida symptoms got worse while on prednisone? You've mentioned whiteness on your tongue but could it be just something else? Anything else? Also is it known that prednisone causes yeast overgrowth? Thanks -Andy

Yep, it raises the blood sugar, which the yeasties happily eat! I was craving massive amounts of cheese while I was on steroids - which the yeasties also happily eat. Guest guest
And I believe steroids suppress the immune system, which means the candida/yeast can flourish more easily. The immune system plays a big role in keeping the microorganisms at stable or balanced levels. Kim M. Guest guest
Hi Andy, > How did you know your Candida symptoms got worse while on prednisone? You've mentioned whiteness on your tongue but could it be just something else? Anything else? I never had a white coating on my tongue before prednisone, and I did after I started it - it appeared when I was also very sick with a high fever right after starting prednisone at 40mg. I went to a couple doctors and they both said it looked like thrush. Antifungals have had an effect on it, but had horrible side effects/die off for me. Not sure which. Natural antifungals, like garlic, and avoiding sugar, etc. seem to work much better. > Also is it known that prednisone causes yeast overgrowth? > Prednisone suppresses the immune system, and it is typical to catch everything going around and have much worse symptoms with it, including fever for a common cold. For yeast, which is opportunistic, this means there is less immune response to keep them in check, so they overgrow. My docs asked questions about meds and history to find out why I had thrush, since you dont' just " get it " as an adult, and when I mentioned the prednisone, the response was, " oh, that makes sense then. " They see lots of other cases with AIDS patients, for the same reason that the immune system is well, wiped out by virus instead of supressed by meds. Hope that helps to clarify.
