Guest guest
I hope someone can help me out here. Today while brushing teeth I had a weird feeling around my lower back molar - the one banded. I checked afterwards and to my horror discovered that it was actually moving sort of up and down. Sadly due to my open bite that is the only place where my teeth meet so it is under constant pressure. I called my ortho in despair and he told me not to panic because this can happen and he will check it at my next appointment - a week form next Tuesday. I am still worried and honestly am fed up with this whole thing and feel it is actually ruining my whole life and doubt if it ever work fine again. Has this happened to any of you? Guest guest
Hi Karola, Do not despair... My band also became loose and irritated after surgery and it hurt a lot. I just did not play with it and focussed on the other side of my mouth and tried not to let the band move to much. Eventually the irritation went away and I just kept on doing what I was doing. When I go to the orthodontist next week he will fix it as well as a bracket that popped off. Have you had surgery or are you just in braces? If it is just braces, that does just happen and at the next appointment they will replace the band. It's not a big deal. If you are healing after surgery, it is a little more worrysome but also not the end of the world. Good Luck, Tova > > I hope someone can help me out here. Guest guest
I promise, this will not ruin your whole life ... unless you choose to make that happen. It is not unusual at all to have teeth be loose and/or shaky, after braces or after surgery. Just try to leave it alone, best you can, and not fiddle with it. That's hard. Or at least it was for me. Not at all unusual to be " fed up with this whole thing. " It's hard to see the end in sight when you think you have a major complication in midstream. But I'm hoping for you that it's not so major as you're suspecting. Just try not to fiddle, in any way, with the offending tooth.. Best, C. > > I hope someone can help me out here. Guest guest
Hi Tova, This molar is on the right side on the bottom. I don't know how you count teeth is the USA but it is number 6 if you count it from the first front tooth. I had number seven extracted mid January. My ortho said it would be best to get rid of that one since it had a root canal and a crown. (It took my very good dentist 1,5 hours to get it out!!!) He is planning to pull my wisdom tooth in its place as he said it would be removed during surgery and this way we save a healthy tooth instead of one that is already a weak one. I have all my wisdom teeth and so far I have had no pain with them. On the left side (bottom) he is going to pull number 7 and my wisdom tooth in the place of number 6 and on that side the band is on number 7. It is definitely the tooth that seems to move up and down in its socket and also a bit from side to side - together with the band which seems to be securely in place. I think I will just try to be patient as with all other teeth that hurt for a day or two and then stop hurting. I just panic as we do when we don't understand something and fear losing my teeth to the braces. I know it is highly unlikely but can't help worrying. I also know people here are going through much much worse ordeals right now and endure things I can't even imagine now but probably I will too. This whole process is scary and surreal. And mostly barbaric. Totally. And I can't let this take over my life. The fact that I had to postpone trying for a baby was bad enough. Instead we began building our own little house which I like to think of as a consolation and a gift from life and it requires a lot of energy and strength. My husband is fabulously patient and understanding and I don't want to leave him cope with all the tasks around the building project as that alone is overwhelming not to mention having to tend to me. I guess this is one of the many setbacks I will encounter on the way. Anyway, thanks for advice and listening. Karola
Guest guest
Tova's right, though. It could be a wizzie, or another tooth that's an oddball embedded one... I had an impacted one on my lower left. You don't wanna know what happened with that one -- among other things, it threw my entire bite off. i'd think, though, that your ortho would have seen such on x-rays. (Your ortho did do x-rays? Right?) Where are you, I wonder. I associate the name Karola with Poland, perhaps because I'm of the impression (perhaps mistaken) that it's one of the names of the pope. It could also be that you have what my hygienists call " a food trap " there, for some reason of configuration, and that you're battling some debris that's hard to get out. (My folks actually said that the proxabrushes are better for me than flossing, in that spot, as they may get out bits that the floss only pushes under the gums. They also suggested that I use the waterpic device, which flushes stuff out with a stream of pressurized water.) Anybody building a house has my sympathies. We are still trying to put ours back together after Hurricane Ivan had its way with the house. It is not fun, at all. But I'm hoping, as I reckon you are, that there will be rewards outweighing the troubles. If you keep your mouth clean, you're unlikely to lose your teeth to the braces, so long as you don't have root resorption (which generally comes about, I think, from trying to move things too quickly, or for those who start with damaged roots). Generally, folks save their teeth with braces. And no, it should not be barbaric. Not any part of it. There are parts that sound barbaric to me, but the docs have their skills and techniques so refined now that you shouldn't have to undergo any barbarisms. That is not to say " no pain. " But as my ortho told me, " The teeth move better when we are kind to them. " Cammie > > Hi Tova, > This molar is on the right side on the bottom.
