I had exactly this happen with my son. You are in good hands. Jeannie - the CEO will do a thorough job for you in order to get the right fit from a new helmet. In our case, my son didn't even have plagio - and it was Jeannie who picked up on it when she was preparing to make the second helmet. (impressive since even a CF specialist didn't correctly diagnose).

Good Luck

Hello AllHas anyone had trouble getting the band to hold their childs head?? Ours keeps shifting and causing pressure spots. CT told us that we will have to do new pics, then they are going to send them to CEO of the company and see what she thinks and they may have to make a new band. They blame it on his head shape since besides plagio he has some flat spots on top of his head from his in urtero position. I am so frusterated since he has been out of his helmet more then he has been in these past 2 weeks and I am worried we are missing out on growth spurts.Mark DOC band on and off since 6/1

What a bummer!

Mia's band shifts around a bit more after each adjustment.. which kind of makes sense. But if his was very loose from the beginning, maybe something went wrong somewhere. Hopefully they'll figure it out soon.

Which CT are you using? How old is your son?

We go to Paramus CT and my son was casted at 13 weeks and fitted at 14 weeks.

I have been having the same problem with my son's DOC band since he received it May 7th. They made an "adjustment" (last week after weeks of my concerns) around the ear so the sideburn portion wouldn't cover his ear totally. But it still slides around, up and down and shifts consistently. It doesn't appear to be properly fitted for his head.

I have asked repeatedly in this forum if anyone else has encountered the same problem and the responses have been mixed. Some people initially had the sliding problem, but their children grew into the bands and it subsided. Others needed a few adjustments for the band to fit properly.

I feel so bad for my son since the band STILL shifts and covers his ear (often the sideburn portion is pushing his tympanum?- the little flap outside the ear canal) and it slides down almost covering his eyes.

We had his head casted, so I'm curious about why the band is so ill-fitting. I think he might have grown in the week between the casting and the fitting and now the band isn't right for him. Or am I just impatient and neurotic? We have seen some correction on the top of his head and the forehead bossing, but the flat spot on the back of his head is still flat as ever.

Oh, and he still hasn't "filled out" the band to require his first real adjustment. Is that normal after almost 5 weeks?

We are using CT in Dallas TX.  They have been great but its just so frustrating.  Mark is 5.5 months old so I know we are missing some prime growing opportunities.  We go today for them to take the new photos, and see what can be done.  He had to sleep without the band last night because he still had those pressure spots on the back of his head.  They really bother him and I feel so bad!!!

We did the DSI scan so I was wondering if the casting is more accurate?? Sounds like some did the casting and still are having problems.

I will keep yall posted

Thanks

My son was casted for one band and scanned for his second and both fit him fine.

I've spoke to CT reps recently and it seems that there are a lot of complex

headshapes out there (more so than just a couple of years ago)...not just

typical plagio or just typical brachy, but combinations of both...and sometimes

Jeanne (the CEO) has to give special attention to certain bands for this reason.

So maybe that is what is going on with you. If she's on your case and is aware

of the situation, you are in REALLY good hands (that woman is seriously

amazing). I know you're frustrated about missed growth spurts, but if they can

get a new one made in the next week, it should all work out fine. Please keep us

posted. Good luck!

****UPDATE****

Went to CT yesterday, they did a new DSI scan and took new photos with the band and without the band on, and were able to get them to Jeanne right away.  Our clinician spoke with her on the phone and it turns out that his helmet is too small!!!! He must have hit a growth spurt from the time they scanned him originally till the time he got his band.  Jeanne is going to hand make his band so we are very excited!!!! I guess she used to hand make all of them, but then went to a computer model to make them however she still inspects them all.  Our clinician said when she hand makes them they are perfect!!! We will have it in a week so finally maybe we can get things going.  No band for now we left it there so the process starts over on 6/18, frustrating but glad we got it resolved!!

Mark 5.5months new DOC band in the works!!

Same news here!! I was also told that the original band was a little small and that his skull and face had changed in the 8 days between casting and fitting. We started all over yesterday and the new band should be ready by the 16th.

Let's hope the new bands are great and our boys will have the roundest heads ever!!
