Guest guest
My son had torticollis and at 2 months we noticed his head was flat on the right. We did the stretching and repo for a long time. Our PT said at 6 months that he went from 8mm to 3 mm and that 3 mm off was considered normal. I felt like his head was still off but I didn't pursue it b/c I really liked the idea of not helmeting. Fast forward to today at 10.5 months. I was still kind of bothered so we went to an orthotics place for a consult, and he measured him to be 7 mm off and a CI of 90%. I'm so regretful that I didn't look into the helmet earlier when it was winter and he was younger. My baby probably won't get his helmet until he's after 11 months now. Regret has to be the worst feeling ever. some questions: the specialist we talked to said that after 14 months, the head grows but doesn't change shape - that the whole head just grows as one unit at that point. is that true? also, the place we went to is a local place and their helmets are the see-through plastic ones - not the foam ones. Does anyone have any experience in those? thanks for the help. this group is great.
Guest guest
oops, I didn't mean to be in Marla's thread! So sorry about that. I think I might have named my post the same and it lumped it with Marla's somehow. > > My son had torticollis and at 2 months we noticed his head was flat on the right. Guest guest
Well, first of all, my daughter did not even get her helmet until she was almost 15 months old. I am not alone on this board with this. We even have one that was not banded until 17 months and got good correction. I don't know why this myth continues, even with the orthos. The amount of change that is gotten is directly related to the amount of growth. Growth does slow down considerably at that age, but it doesn't stop. It slows down even more at 18 months, but it doesn't stop. My daughter grew about 1.5 cm from 14 to 20 months. Yes, she would have grown that much in a month or so if she were considerably younger so that is why our correction wasn't as good, but we did get some correction. Her brachy went from 95% to 92%. At 11 months, he will be in the helmet longer than most, but those numbers are not that significant. I'll bet that the plagio is completely corrected and the brachy goes down into the middle 80s. Yes, the baby will have to wear the band for longer, but it's not even close to being too late. , mom to , 21.5 months STARband grad 11/17/08 to 05/11/09 land Re: new here! oops, I didn't mean to be in Marla's thread!
