Guest guest
7 mm is generally considered mild, but it really depends on how your son looks. The measurements only give you an idea of the asymmetry at a certain point. They don't capture the whole head shape. I know our specialist (cranial facial plastic surgeon) recommends banding at 10mm or above - however that is only a guideline. I also know parents who have banded at 7mm and were very glad that they decided to do so. I know this conflicting advice might not be much help to you :-) Another possibility is to post pictures of your child to get opinions. -christine sydney, 3 yrs starband grad > > I just took my 8 1/2 month old to Cranial Technologies to get evaluated because I noticed he had a flat spot on the left side of his head. My MIL thinks that I am crazy since it is hard to tell that there is this flattening esp since he has a lot of hair. His cranial vault 7mm difference and all others are 3mm. To me his head looks a little tall and flat on the left. The lady there says that it is a moderate case. The ped said nothing at 6 months. We are going back in 2 weeks to the ped. We are really having a hard time deciding if the band is the right thing to do. For those who have done the band with moderate cases of flattening what were your starting measurements and do you think that it was worth it? > Thanks >
Guest guest
hi! My daughter's plagio was pretty severe (Cranial Vault started at 10.4mm) But her ped didn't seem to think her head shape was anything to be concerned about, along with friends, family, and even my own husband! Everyone thought it was " no big deal " , that " it would fix itself " , " I was just being a freaked out first time mommy " , or a lot of people didn't even notice at all. well, I wasn't convinced and trusted my gut. I did some research online and pretty much diagnosed her myself. I finally convinced her ped to write me a referral to see the craniofacial specialist and after I got my diagnosis confirmed I decided to go ahead with the helmet even though my insurance wouldn't cover it. My little girl was a little over 9 months when she started wearing her helmet and after 1 month her CVAI went from 10.4mm to 6.9mm!!! I can already see a HUGE improvement and she does so great with her helmet. It's really not as bad as it sounds. I'm not going to tell you what you should do. You should do what you feel is the best thing for your child. A mother's intuition is always the best so don't let anybody push you into a corner...I didn't and I'm so glad. The sooner you get started with the helmet the better results you'll see so if you feel it's right, don't hesitate! hope this helped! Guest guest
My son Aiden has been wearing the starband helmet for almost 5 weeks. He just turned 8 months and I noticed that his head is bigger but I do not see any difference in his head. During the second scan I feel as if the ortho was making the scan look better than it was. He said he went from 6mm assymetry to .10 (I think that's is what is was). However, he followed up with well it could come out different in another scan because I allign it on the computer. What? He makes no sense! The story is that the ortho did not want me to get the helmet in the first place because he feels my son's head is minor but insurance is paying because the cephalic index (I think that's what it was) was 92%. This is the second time I've been there. The first time I was told my son's head would round out and it never did. We started the helmet at 11 months and it did not work. I just don't understand why his head is not improving and if his asymetry is so mild then why do I notice it in pics and when I look at him. My husband is not being supportive either. I just want one kid with ears that are aligned. I just want to scream. I held my baby all day to avoid this. I can't believe I'm here again. So frustrated!!! Do I continue or just stop? Has anyone had a similiar experience?
