Guest guest
There are some things we can say to try to reassure you, and we can probably offer some help if you'll tell us about your specific fears. So can your surgeon -- matter of fact, your ortho and your surgeon should be your first and best line of information and support. You probably will still be afraid -- I don't know anybody who wasn't -- but we can probably help you get through it. I had it at age 56. 5 mm. Did fine. Had no numbness, ever; (that's pretty unusual). Lost only a tiny bit of blood. Had minimal swelling, but much bruising. All in all, the actual surgery was nearly nothing, compared to the months of dreading and fearing it, which I felt was foolish, in retrospect, but remember most vividly. Many, many people have undergone the procedure you need, and almost all have emerged satisfied, with jaws that work better and faces whose appearance they find more pleasing. It can indeed go other ways, and you should investigate the risks. but you should also know that while it's major surgery, my guy, anyhow, regarded the lower advancement as a relatively simple procedure. Read around on these sites, look at others experiences. Realize that if you're having lower jaw work only, you probably will not have to deal with the issues of congestion and trouble breathing. And if you're worried about being wired shut, see if you can find a surgeon who doesn't generally do that any more, but whom you trust. Mine doesn't. I did have a splint wired in, but was not wired, nor even banded when I left the hospital! Sometimes you just have to knuckle down, as they say, take control of your fears and get through them. It can be hard, I know. But it also can be so worth doing! And sometimes it helps to know that you're not alone. Good luck. Cammie > > SO AFRAID OF HAVING LOWER JAW SURGERY.
