Hi All - I've been waiting until I was at a point to join this group,

have been reading posts for awhile now. My surgery (distal) was 14

months and 184 pounds ago!!! Yippeeeeeeee. I am feeling great. My

diabetes DR doesn't even check my blood sugars anymore (was on three

oral meds and a huge amount of insulin prior to surgery). My blood

pressure is normal to low even without the meds anymore. I am off

cholesterol meds (had such bad cholesterol that I had a heart attack

ten years ago at age 38). The arthritis is in check, sleep apnea

gone kidney function back to normal. Gotta stop, there is more good

news but don't want to go on and on. Here is my question, my sister

(also a by-pass patient) has gained a lot of her weight back and said

she read online that it is normal to gain back 50% of total weight

loss. I thought that it was pretty common to gain back about 10%

after a couple of years, BUT 50%, that's scary. Please tell me if

she was missinformed I need to be mentally and emotionally prepared.

I have 24 more pounds to go to original goal, may want to go down

another 15 lbs. if I can, things are very slow at this point, will

consider myself very lucky to make original goal. Any input would be

great. Thank you.

Welcome to the group VIcki. Actually I had never heard that. What I

have heard, and I'm not saying it is true, is that most of us well loose

50 to 70% of our excess weight and maintain that weight. If you have

lost more then that you have beaten the odds. But who really believes in

statistics anyway.

That sounds good in theory, but at 3+ years out...what I did is now too much.

I have to make alterations....and cut back here and there. Spose they call

it the three year wall..or something...but what worked back then...isn't

working now...I have gotten the dreaded bounce-back..and I'm fighting with all

my

might to get it back down. Hubby says I look healthier...but I really LIKE how

I felt at 126 lbs. I KNOW I'm not fat...but I see fat when I look in the

mirror, now that I am used to a very thin body. I hate this~!

Regards~
