extremely concerned...

I have made a few posts regarding my son's DOC band shifting and the sideburn

portion covering his left ear. It still continues to shift despite an

adjustment to the sideburn portion to alleviate any pressure on his ear.

This morning, I was doing a thorough check of his head and ears b/c I am

becoming more and more concerned that the band is possibly pushing his left ear

back. His left ear was never off, it was his right ear from right side plagio.

I noticed that the left ear does seem a bit pushed back (but it was never even

with his right ear due to the right side assymetry) and the cheekbone area in

front of his left ear appears to be dented from the sideburn of the DOC band.

While there has been some correction of the frontal bossing and the top of his

head where there was a flat spot, I can't help but wonder if the shifting is

causing permanent damage to the left side of his face. It doesn't seem right to

me that the band can be working effectively when it's always shifted to the

left.

How would I go about directing these concerns to the orthotist so that I don't

get that " look " and a polite brush-off? Can someone tell me if I am over

reacting to something that is normal in DOC band treatment? Is there any other

ortho centers in the NY/NJ area that I can consult for a second opinion? I live

in upstate NY, so the weekly drive down to Paramus is over 2 hours. AND our

insurance wouldn't cover the band, so we are OOP for it.

Have you had a chance to study his original " headcicle " in the office? It is

REALLY easy to forget what their head looked like before starting treatment and

it might help to see him side by side with it to be sure you're seeing what

you're seeing (not that I don't believe you, I just know from experience that my

eyes can play tricks VERY easily). I would just voice your concerns and see what

they say. I mentioned in my other post re: " Problems with DOCBand " that maybe

you're dealing with a complex head shape and it may need some extra attention.

Is your therapist aware of your concerns up to this point? They should be

willing to listen to you and possibly take a new set of photos to see if the

left side is shifting wrong. I know a 2 hour commute is tough (we had to go 2.5

each way), but it will be worth it if you can put your fears to rest. Please
