Guest guest
I'm starting my second year as a post-op. My surgery has been successful so far, in that I've lost over 80% of my excess weight and am currently about 20-30 pounds from ideal weight. I hope I get there but won't be miserable if I don't. My big fear is regaining, which I know is quite common. I can eat much more than many post-ops report, pretty much a normal amount; I get hungry, both head hunger and " real " hunger; and all the old habits and cravings are still out there and I don't think they'll ever go away. I have to find a way to be vigilant with mindful eating and consistent with exercise for the rest of my life. I don't mean to whine, I'm really quite happy, but this is hard work and will likely get harder, so I'm looking for motivation wherever I can find it. What books have you guys found helpful? I'm not looking for books touting a particular diet plan, but rather books with behavioral tips, motivation, fitness guides, that sort of thing. I've been recommended " Seven Secrets of Slim People " (which I may actually have at home, have to check) and I just ordered " Habits, Not Diets: The Secret to Lifetime Weight Control. " I read the earlier edition of this in the 70's and found it a good introduction to behavior modification. At Amazon's suggestion I also ordered " Weight Loss Through Persistence: Making Science Work for You " by Kirschenbaum. Anybody read that and found it helpful? I'd love to hear other suggestions for books you found especially motivating. Thanks! Celia
