((((Diane))))

I'm so glad that you have joined us and certainly hope that we

can be of assistance to you.

Larry's death cut us to the core--so many of us expressed concern

about the circumstances and much could have speculation on our part.

All of us hope that all surgeons hopefully learn something from

Larry's death-- esp. any protocol that should be followed in pts of

his BMI.

You mentioned in your post that you want to be certain about what

happened in the hospital, what in particular are you unsure about?

If there is any doubt in your mind about what happened to Larry, or

anything surrounding his care, I strongly advise you you get a

complete copy of his chart and operative notes. If you feel uneasy

about doing this--consult with an attorney. These records can be

obtained--and they can go over them to see if anything improper or if

prodedure wasn't followed...ect... Most malpractice specialty

attorneys have medical specialists on staff that go over all of

this. Of course they will interview you and family to see if your

recollections and observations match what is charted.

As a nurse--and many others on this list with medical background

expressed--is with Larry's extremely high BMI--some DS surgeons have

varying protocols because of the higher risk. One of them being that

a vena cava filter is inserted. This filter catches large clots and

allows them to break down before they reach the heart and lungs.

If you are able to please post as many details that you feel

comfortable with. This will get the ball rolling -- we ask alot of

questions--just know that we are only wanting to get a complete

picture. If you are considering any legal action--I would strongly

advise you--as I'm sure any attorney would, from publically posting

alot of details. Just wouldn't want anything to hurt you in the end.

I hope that this doesn't overwhelm you--my heart ached for you when

Larry passed, and I'm sure your ache is still pretty strong--we hope

that we can be there for you in whatever way we can.
