Guest guest
Hi, I was ready for surgery a couple months before I actually had it due to a scheduling problem. Because of school, I had hoped to fit my surgery in over january break, but the surgeon wasn't able to look at my models in time to get it all arranged. The next chance I had was my spring break in early March. In the meantime, I got the jitters and checked out a couple surgeons before definitely deciding (much more confidently) on the original surgeon. Between my having a follow- up meeting with him which my orthodontist recommended on February 7 there was just exactly a month until my surgery on March 9th. It could have been earlier possibly had he not been leaving for vacation at the end of February. But I got in there pretty quickly. I think that scheduling is very unique to the surgeon/where you are located. I hear what I would call horror stories about the wait some people have to get in just for a consult with their surgeon. YOu might ask his office generally what the turnaround time is... as soon as he reviews your models and thinks you are ready for surgery.... how long will you have to wait after that point before he'll be able to get you in??? I don't know how often he performs surgery in a week or how many surgeries in a day. The surgeon I went with performs one day a week and he, at least on the day I went in, had 5 surgeries!!! He is very experienced though. Another surgeon I consulted with performs surgery I think on more than one day a week, so scheduling with him would have gone differently. I would have had a better date with him, but I cared more about which surgeon than the date, so I went with the one I trusted and the one my orthodontist recommended after we sat down and discussed everything (there were other factors up in the air regarding what surgery to have, etc due to my specific case). Anyway, the point is that a lot of factors come in to play to affect how the scheduling pans out. Did your orthodontist tell you that you'll get your braces off very soon after the surgery?? Mine has maintained about 6 months post surgery all along. I will be happy if they are off by the end of the year because I totally don't want them off prematurely. Anyway, this is how my scheduling went. Probably everyone on this site has a completely different story. Good luck and I hope it all works out for you!! If anything, you can photoshop out the braces in your wedding pictures. My boyfriend and I did that for me in a picture we had taken together! Looks great too!! But really, I do hope they are off in time.... Let us know what happens!! Katja PS Let your ortho know that you are anxious to get this scheduled! Mine would have gone differently if I hadn't told my ortho that I wanted to get the ball rolling because I was working around time constraints of school. As soon as he knew, he worked with me to get things going.... > > Hi all, > > ooohhh I am getting in a right tis!
