Re: Getting shoes tight enough

's foot isn't a narrow, but I wondered about that, too. He is

wearing a size 0 and his toes are a little more than a quarter of an

inch from the end. I looked at the size chart on the Markell site the

other day but didn't see anything about how to tell how wide.

Tonight I did get his good foot one notch tighter. He sleeps

straight through the night so if he wakes up fussy in the middle of

the night, I will know the shoe is too tight. You are right, though,

I don't want him to relapse because the shoe isn't on tight enough. I

often check his dorsiflexion and it is still great. As for checking

the tip sheet, I have, and with the hole in the heel of the shoe, I

can see his foot is where it is supposed to be when I put it on. I

did not cut the tongue slit, so I will try that. Oh, and the strap is

in the lowest slot, too. I suppose I shouldn't look a gift horse in

the mouth...he has had no blisters or sores or red spots and his foot

stays in the shoes and he isn't complaining.

You might try contacting Markell with the question about width. Jay

Markell is a member here so you could find his email addy in the

members list. I think, but I don't know, that on the shoe chart that

if the foot is narrower than the template then you would need a

narrow. If the rest of his foot is staying put, but his heel moving

around the only thing I would be concerned is that it could allow for

some heel varus to occur (inversion of the heel). My unprofessional

opinion would be that if you are getting them on tight and they are

staying on that it should be okay. I think your safest bet is to

check with the docs, to see what they think.

Best of luck!
