Guest guest
hi hazel here, (4 kids, jade, tim, ben, ollie bcf 6weeks serial casting, dbb since 24/7) seen the doc today. bad news - he's not ponsetti certificated. good news - he's part of a group of docs pedro? i think( that bit went over my head) which is the uk group of docs who meet twice a year. and he's an afiliated member of the equivalent american group pedna? he was down to do the ponsetti training but something come up so had to send his collgue. he's been trying to get on the course but it's always full (they only run it once/twice a year) but he's been going to manchester (dr noami davies organised) to confrences etc on the ponsetti method and keep up with dvd's, books etc. he's just been to liverpool where there was a presentation on the success rate(he mentioned 80%)in england. he also mentioned going to utah, i think it was, last year to one dr ponsetti/his team did. any way he put me at rest. i've got to gradually turn his feet out to 70 degrees in the next week then in four weeks start to reduce his hours by a couple of hours. i see him again in six weeks. i also asked about his hands(i asked you guys a while back what you thought or if you had come across it) someone said it could of been arthragrymosis (can't spell) he's ruled that out but said there is a muscle/ligament problem there. he's given me exercises to do and if that doesn't help he'll have to have splints. he even gave me a compliment. i'm starting a support group and he asked if he could recommend me to his other patients. he said coz i'd done so much research and was telling him what should be happening, he said he hadn't enough time to talk to parents much about it and i would. can you tell i'm on a high??? thanks everyone for your support. in a couple of weeks i'll probly be asking questions for members of the support group. lol, haz of lincoln, uk. Guest guest
Hi Hazel, That's great news! And kudos to you for being so proactive and starting a support group! Get Ollie to be one of this doc's success cases so he can submit him to Dr. Ponseti for listing on the website! I do have one question, what degree of abduction is Ollie set at right now? I'm curious why the doctor either a) didn't cast him to 70 in the last cast, or 2) didn't set him to 70 from the get go. Am I correct in assuming you're at 3 mo's 23/7 right now? And he hasn't been at 70 degrees this whole time? Please tell me a bit more so I can understand where you're coming from with now increasing his abduction over the next week. I would have to say much more than an additional 10-15 degrees (meaning going from 55 or 60 degrees to 70) is too much to ask from a foot not priorly abducted that far in casts so this is why I ask. Personally, I wouldn't feel comfortable doing more than 10 degrees like this. I was faced with this when Darbi was first casted and only by fate did she get the correct abduction from the hands of a trainee doc while getting her last healing cast (got sores from shoes initially). Who knows if her problems had anything to do with the doc not abducting properly, or just me not putting them on right. Probably a combination of both. But I will say that these docs continue to modify the abduction and have never had much luck with keeping shoes on babies... there's got to be something to it methinks... Good luck with the exercises for his hands, I'm sure he'll enjoy holding hands with you so much! Sounds like a good time to be had by all :~} Keep us posted! Guest guest
That sounds great, except I wonder what you mean that you have to gradually turn his feet out to 70 degrees. That's new to me. s. good news and bad news. hi hazel here, (4 kids, jade, tim, ben, ollie bcf 6weeks serial casting, dbb since 24/7) seen the doc today. bad news - he's not ponsetti certificated. good news - he's part of a group of docs pedro? i think( that bit went over my head) which is the uk group of docs who meet twice a year. and he's an afiliated member of the equivalent american group pedna? he was down to do the ponsetti training but something come up so had to send his collgue. he's been trying to get on the course but it's always full (they only run it once/twice a year) but he's been going to manchester (dr noami davies organised) to confrences etc on the ponsetti method and keep up with dvd's, books etc. he's just been to liverpool where there was a presentation on the success rate(he mentioned 80%)in england. he also mentioned going to utah, i think it was, last year to one dr ponsetti/his team did. any way he put me at rest. i've got to gradually turn his feet out to 70 degrees in the next week then in four weeks start to reduce his hours by a couple of hours. i see him again in six weeks. i also asked about his hands(i asked you guys a while back what you thought or if you had come across it) someone said it could of been arthragrymosis (can't spell) he's ruled that out but said there is a muscle/ligament problem there. he's given me exercises to do and if that doesn't help he'll have to have splints. he even gave me a compliment. i'm starting a support group and he asked if he could recommend me to his other patients. he said coz i'd done so much research and was telling him what should be happening, he said he hadn't enough time to talk to parents much about it and i would. can you tell i'm on a high??? thanks everyone for your support. in a couple of weeks i'll probly be asking questions for members of the support group. lol, haz of lincoln, uk. Guest guest
sorry didn't reply straight away first time i've been on since wednesday. ollie had serial casting up to his nappy for six weeks then was put in to dbb after this. he has worn them now for 8weeks. the dr said he didn't want to turn feet fully out to 70 to start with coz he wanted to do it slowly to ease ollie into it. apparently he has more babies staying in boots better. i think personnally thinking about it, we had an appointment on the 21st december and didn't get to see him, just his registra(it had been snowing and there was alot of broken bones and things around). so i think he would of got me to do it then if i'd of seen him. haz of lincoln, uk
