Isn't amytriptalene also infamous for causing constipation? Not

trying to create a self-fulfilling prophecy here, but if you're on

other pain stuff, too, you may want to be sure you're getting

adequate fiber or some other remedy.

And gawd. Dilaudid. For the folks I love, that's been a heavy duty

painkiller, and caused some troubles with hallucinations, etc.

I certainly am behind that solid recommendation not to take anything

your OS hasn't prescribed/hasn't approved. But I will tell both of

you that my spouse and I have both had reasonable relief from

neuropathies (nerve pain troubles) with neurontin or trileptal. Both

are anti-seizure meds, which have off-label use in treating nerve

pain, and have really been godsends to us.

I think many docs are skeptical of them, perhaps with good reason;

and that many others are not knowledgeable in such use. (We have a

most excellent neurologist working on some other complex problems.)

Neither is over the counter, and you would not get them without a

prescription, which is, no doubt, a Good Thing.

But they have worked for us. Not just in that phantom pain, but also

in shingles and in those neuropathies.

C.
